I'm always surprised at the variety of film that comes out of Japan. It was a film, initially, that made me realize that the Japanese were more complex than the weird shit we often see coming out of there: In "A Taxing Woman" there's an almost heartbreaking scene in which the overworked heroine, employed by the Japanese ministry of revenue, is working late yet again and is talking to her little boy on the phone, explaining to him how to heat up his dinner in the microwave.

The whole movie was great, but that scene in particular packed an emotional punch that has stayed with me.

... until she starts going on about liking being a substitute for something else. Then it's kinda sad.  I immediately thought of Lars and the Real Girl, this sounds like it may be the better movie.

It sure looks better than Mannequin.
