kim

I will be eating tofurkey on this thanksgiving day. Though, unlike most vegans - the rest of my spread will be fucking amazing - AND NORMAL!

No bean this and wild rice crap. Tofurkey, though it looks kinda weird, is actually not bad at all and I have had it when I wasn't vegetarian and didn't think it had the normal fake meat taste at all.

As for the rest of those pictures - who the hell would eat that shit? Last night a coworker of mine was telling me how it wife was in the middle of making a homemade tofu turkey. It sounded boring and tasteless but I could admire the hard work I guess.

Why even imitate it?

"In the ThanksGiving Mail Box:

Recently I received a parrot as a gift.

The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary.
Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with
profanity.

I tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently
saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else I could
think of to "clean up" the bird's vocabulary.

Finally, I was fed up and I yelled at the parrot.

The parrot yelled back.

I shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even ruder.

So, in desperation, I threw up my hands, grabbed the bird and
put him in the freezer.

For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed.

Then suddenly there was total quiet.

Not a peep was heard for over a minute.

Fearing that I'd hurt the parrot,

I quickly opened the door to the freezer.

The parrot calmly stepped out onto my outstretched arms and said

"I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and
actions.

I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and
I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and
unforgivable behavior."

I was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude.

As I was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic
change in his behavior, the bird continued,

"May I ask what the turkey did?"

What's that? You'd rather drink your Tofurky? Jones Soda has a solution for you.

I don't understand Vegans and can't even begin to comprehend their uncontrollable urge to create meat replacements.  Why not just eat some delicious veggies?  Why do you have to dress it up?  You aren't fooling anyone but yourselves...

I'm with DMT on this. There are millions of tasty veggies in the world and a billion ways to cook them so they don't look like a big pasty gray turd. You can be a vegan without resorting to creative tofu carving or sneaking TVP into food that should be made with hamburger.

If you're a vegan who's making (or buying) pretend meat (veggie burgers, tofu dogs, tofurkey, whatever), you should probably just go on and kill yourself.

...oh, wait, you already were doing that, just slowly.  Nevermind.  Carry on.

I haven’t eaten meat in a long time, but I imagine it’s chewy just like pretend meat.  I don’t usually buy meat replacements because they’re prepackaged, expensive, and high in sodium, but what’s wrong with getting some chewy textures in my otherwise crunchy kitchen?

I am incredibly suspicious of veganism, largely because I believe it's really little more than ideology as opposed to really eating. Having said that, much of what I eat and cook is vegan - or vegetarian, for that matter - and for anyone who loves food, vegan dishes were already part of the repertoire. I purposely eat less and less meat, partially because I don't think eating too much of anything is particularly healthy and partially because I decided a while ago that I would eat - mostly - organic and sustainably raised meats which are more expensive, therefore I can really only afford to eat a smaller amount of it.

So Taint, what’s your expert opinion on faux meats?

My expert opinion is, of course, well informed and supported by facts, lots and lots of facts, and plenty of insight, as well. But to answer your question, they suck. For god's sake, if you like soy, eat soy. If you like meat, eat meat. If you need some sort of training wheels to get yourself to make some sort of lame-ass commitment to vegetarianism, then perhaps you shouldn't be a vegetarian. Vegetarian cooking is rich and full of an incredible variety of flavors, textures, and more. Eat a wide variety of foods: you don't need to eat meat. If you're making a lifestyle out not eating meat, or of actually eating meat, then you need more to do in your life.

Thanks.  I agree they suck.  But I can’t agree that faux meats are “training wheels” for vegetarianism.  I think they’re an easy, salty, chewy, thing for people who don’t like to cook.

Initially, I had no problems when I told people I didn’t eat meat.  After vegetarianism became popular, and I started using the word “vegetarian” to describe my diet, I started getting shit for it.  Aren’t “vegetable loaf” and “meatless meatloaf” the same thing?  Are veggie hot dogs any more suspicious than the real ones?

Yes.  I have been a vegan, vegetarian, macrobiotic diet practitioner, and general omnivore.  I prefer what my biology dictates, not some guilt syndrome. (not saying you are functioning on that)  Any one so ardent any which way is a fucking bore.

Thanksgiving: one particular day upon which there is a dispensation for the Sin of Gluttony.

Meanwhile: I like to make a sort of lentil-rice stew with lots of veggies. I think it's tasty enough but better with some chopped ham in it.

In my mind the vegans are the ones who used to hurt small animals in their youth and are now trying to make up for it through this twisted penance....

I am strongly against factory farming and feel that meat should be much more expensive than it currently is.

Thanks Dmtdust; I appreciate your lack of assumptions.  However my biology dictates that I kill other men, fuck teenage women, and eat anything and everything edible.  Unfortunately, as a domesticated animal, this is unacceptable.  Does the human body crave what it actually needs?

I far prefer older women, over 35... they've learned a thing or two, and have far better imaginations and spirit in bed than younger ones.

For me the sweet spot is around 30~32, but that doesn't make teenage girls any less yummy; not that I'd actually have a relationship with one, just thinking about that makes my head hurt.

Plus, you get that massive boost in randiness that pre-menopause brings on at 40. If 40 year old women started dating 17 year old men, the heat from friction alone could provide our power for the near future.

I am a good cook and make most of my meals myself. Lots of veggies and all that. Tofu, just regular ol' tofu I am not too fond of, but I'll add it to my food here and there. I don't really buy the fake meat stuff because it usually tastes weird. However, when you go years without eating meat those fake meat items are pretty exact - to what you remember meat tasting like. Vegan cream cheese is terrible, but when you haven't had a bagel with real cream cheese the shitty alternative tastes like the real thing.

I have my own personal reasons as to why I don't meat. But I don't think there is anything wrong with people eating meat - and it is fucking tasty.

As for the majority of vegetarians/vegans that I have known - they eat the sickest shit and I don't get it? You don't have to eat flavorless food just because there is no meat in it? Eating all that medium brown hue colored food is no way live.

So do I, but I think it’s something I’ve learned and not something that was hard wired.  In the history of man, older women are brand new; previously, most of them died during their childbearing years.  Menopause is a malady of modern progress.  But if I can learn to enjoy fucking older women, what’s wrong with learning not to eat everything put in front of my face?

If?  It is more a matter of when then if. Almost all 40 + year old women I know have fucked a young guy. This is the norm now I think.

"Almost" is not enough in my book. Not nearly enough. "Couger Town" and it's ilk aside, most women of an appropriate age should have some young stud on the side. But then Viagra and Cialis came along and women didn't have the built in excuse to stray that they did in the past and men aren't shamed into accepting it because they are no longer ashamed by limp-dick syndrome.

Sorry, I just find something really creepy about tagging a guy over 5-6 years younger than me.  I just can't do it.  I don't like them older generally, but under 30 kinda scares me.   I don't like being dubbed a cougar by any means.  Then again, I'm not 40 yet.

Agree. I have always dated older men and I don't think once, even in my high school days, I ever dated a guy my age or younger. Guys in the 29-38 age are usually what I am after (I'm younger than 29 so no Cougaring here).

I think Kim mis-read mine.  I almost always date my age or younger...but only by 5-6 years max.  Usually I end up dating someone 2 years younger than me, which makes them mid 30's.  I've dated over 40 before (once) and I'm open to it, but I rarely find a guy of that age that is in good enough shape to keep up with me.  Under 30 however, is just weird.  I shoot for 32ish-42ish.

My ex spouse was 4 years older, and my recent ex was 2 years older.

We will see when you hit 45 what happens. And believe you me, after the last 10 years on cruel is any guide I imagine we will all still be here in 10 years. If Choad doesn't finally throw up his hands at us and move to Cuba to take up with some dark haired lass.

Most of the women I cited would not have been inclined to sleep with a younger man when they were in their 30s. But at 45 they seemed more open to a fling. Not that they want to keep them or even date them.

It is different for a guy, but I have almost always fallen for women slightly older. Till this summer, I never would have considered even a thank you mamm with a girl below 38.  But then I attracted a certain young thing and it wasn't so bad after all.
