While I appreciate you framing this as a request rather than a command, and also appreciate the politeness which you exhibited while asking, I'm not keen on the idea. Let me try to explain why:

"Fly Me To The Moon" (to use the example you noted) would never make it to the music thread, so the issue for me is whether to post it IN CONTEXT or not at all; it is an unremarkable song which everyone already knows well, and would provide nothing unique on the music thread. So why did I put it where I did?

I get images from all over, but the vast majority of them come from Tumblr sites. I have a list of several hundred of my favorite Tumblrs which I have collected over the years where I have some affinity with the author's tastes. "Fly Me To The Moon" was posted in juxtaposition to the images on one of the sites I was viewing, so the site's author was making a connection between that song and those images. Moreover, I was playing the song in another tab while I was selecting the few images which I ended up taking and reposting on the images thread, so the song no doubt influenced my mood and selection process. In other words -- both me and the site's author were associating that song with those images. Does that matter?  I does to me. It was part of the overall impression and expression which I was creating.

My selection of images is not a rational process; it's emotional. My goal is presenting them for others to view is to generate feelings in them. Music has a powerful effect on emotion. If I were to stop posting music on the images thread then there would be nowhere on the board where it would be permissible to show images and sound in juxtaposition. Is it really so important to put everything in a such a narrowly defined category that expression itself is restricted?

I would also point out that by including the occasional song (it's less than one per page on average, I'm sure) nothing was taken away from anyone. However, by requesting that songs be across-the board prohibited on the images thread, you are denying me the right to express my "message" as I wish to, and denying others who visit the thread the option of receiving the expression as I would like to present it. Why should one person's anality take precedence over the right's of others to choose?

If the inclusion of the occasional musical accompaniment came at a cost to you, I might be more inclined to see it your way. But you are under no obligation to play the songs (which all require an action on the users part to initiate).

I made the argument recently (in relation to a controversial post by JetRx) that whenever there's a conflict between whether to allow a post to be made, or the prevent it, a tie should always go to the person posting. Without posts, there is no reason for the forum to exist. Having several times been through the process of having forums decline and die because the posting dried up I have a strong opinion on this subject; the more you limit and restrict the range of expression allowed on a forum, the more you hasten its demise. Creative, dynamic forums are, of necessity, messy. The impulse to restrict the messiness can also kill the thing itself.

I'm sure you see this issue as isolated (Why not just put the music on the music thread?) whereas I see it as one of many related issues, and one of a pattern of restrictions which people have either tried or succeeded at imposing on posting (mine and that of others). Why should we stop with just music? I post the occasional gif on the static images thread as well. There's a thread for gifs; shouldn't they also be prohibited on the images thread?

Well, as I was afraid of, it's a pretty appalling overreaction.  I should have just said, "No videos in the Pictures, asshole" and you could have responded with, "Go fuck yourself, jerk-off" and we could have called it a day.  I just thought that somebody that has as many boogies flying around in your head as I do in mine could appreciate that it is actually {psychologically} painful foe me to see vids in the pics.  By all means carry on as usual.  Nothing to see here.
