Bad example.

Exhibit A - New Orleans.

Exhibit B - the people involved in the shooting are from a particular sub-culture not know for civilized behavior or compliance with the law.

I think Em's point is, and Cronus, do I hate agreeing with Em, there is no way this situation would have been made better by everybody there being armed.  Unless there were a heavily armed group of Navy Seals that would have murdered every one of both the "Hatfields" and "McCoys".

We are talking about a bunch of wannabe gangbanger hoodrats.  From Louisiana.  Odds are very high they were all armed.

As for your Navy SEAL scenario - I'd PPV that.

Quite frankly, I feel no more secure in my suburban enclave seemingly far from the wards of New Orleans knowing that my neighbors are armed in public. I do not trust the judgement and  emotional stability and discipline of these ostensibly  upstanding citizens with firearms. Especially any that are very  vocal about their right to carry in my community.

Crowds and firearms don't mix.  Hell even Dodge City banned weapons within town limits and that was during the heyday of the great cattle drives.

Different laws are required for town and country; that fact hasn't changed in ten thousand years.
