I just stumbled on this, read it and found it to be interesting. I offer it on that basis alone; I don't vouch for the author or contents or accuracy, etc. Having said that, however, I have no reason to doubt any of those either. And obviously, if I didn't think it bore some resemblance to reality I wouldn't have found it interesting, nor would I have reposted it:

PS -- the criticism at the end of the article makes it clear that the author does not support many of the positions which he reports on earlier in the piece. If you stop reading half way through, you could easily get the wrong impression.

No real big surprises anyway. American colonialism is failing the same way that British colonialism has failed. We are powerless to do much of anything about the crazy little man in North Korea launching his missiles and, thanks to President Donald Jackass Trump, the rest of the economic world just said, "Okay, we'll lead the world without America's help or even participation."
Hey, we had a good run. You don't get thousands of years the way you used to.

I think there are a lot of things going on which are causing a reshuffling of reality (climate change, diminishing resources, and increased competition for the resources which are available, and increasing income inequality to name a few). All of them affect America, of course. But I would put internal division at the top of the list. We are a country which is completely divided, and we have more or less given up the game as we have become consumed by internal struggle, rather than had it taken from us.
The GOP, for example, has replaced our traditional enemies (Russia, China, etc.) with Democrats. No country this divided can legitimately lead the world.
Trump's obvious agenda, for example, is to pull back from international commitments so that he can focus on the real enemy -- reversing everything which Obama did while in office. America masturbates while the world moves on.
