The incredible depths of our gun mess

(Caution:  Long read but worth it)

Never cared for Taurus.  Though I did entertain purchasing a Judge at one point

Most folks in the article, had one jacked in the pipe...good idea when you're expecting trouble...otherwise, meh.  May have been a primer problem, static discharge, improper assembly, ignorance or blown out of proportion like those GMC pickups.

FYI: The NRA and responsible gun owners EVERYWHERE address this issue in an ongoing basis.  It's in a mantra repeated over and over...time after time.  Likely saved countless lives as well.

TREAT ALL WEAPONS AS IF LOADED, ALWAYS POINT IN A SAFE DIRECTION. Additionally:  NEVER put your finger on the trigger unless you mean business/made ABSOLUTELY sure the gun is cleared.

My Glock 20 (Austria) and Kimber Custom (Yonkers, NY WTF?!?!) are well made and work just fine.  Understanding how the fuck they operate and following the aforementioned RULZ keeps things nominal.
Likewise,  the much-panned-for-safety-issues Remington 700 (Ithaca NY......barrel Kobe, Japan) has caused me no concern.

FYI: This happens with revolvers as well...though, IMHO they're safer...except those with #6 ready to go.

Story time:  A few years back, an old codger I knew was carrying firewood around his camp.  Due to meat hanging and grizzlies sniffing, he was packing a holstered S&W 629 with one in the pipe.  Guess what happened when a piece of wood sluffed off his armload and smacked the hammer?  His hunting days are over.  Another "teaching moment" brought to you by fate...or knowing how the guy operated: Karma.  I only say this because he was a poaching ass-wipe with no respect for wildlife, game laws, fair chase or cleaning up his camps.  Hope that makes Big Cat all warm 'n fuzzy.

My dislike of pistols is well known, unless you're out on the range they are truly only used to kill yourself or your loved ones.

I'd like to see us ban the sale of ALL auto-loading weapons manufactured after a certain date (like say Feb 14th 2018); we have enough of those now.

Any body with a round in the chamber is basically an idiot, it doesn't take much practice to be able to chamber a round while you draw - with any sort of firearm.

Points well taken.  However, subscribing to the lowest common denominator to "rearrange" anything in our Bill of Rights is a mistake IMHO.

Think "auto-loading" pistols are intimidating...have a go with the M4 (12).  JarHeads rule.

We already do subscribe to the lowest common denominator, which is why we can't have mortars, rockets and missiles.

I would also hope that banning the sale of new semi-auto weapons, while not removing them from the street, would slowly drive the prices up as resale demand increases.

and if you want real fun get yourself a turn with a MK-19 automatic grenade launcher

I Shoulda Known Bettah:
Went to visit a friend once, with my two year old son in tow.  (I had taught this guy to shoot, and nearly clocked him when at the range he waved the instrument back at me when gesticulating.  I explained that if I survived him doing that again I would take said pistol off of him and beat him into tomorrow.)

We were sitting in his living room talking when I noticed the tyke had wandered off.  I felt a weird alert so I got up, and found him in my friends bedroom pulling a 9mm pistol out of a holster besides the bed.  "Let me have that please" I said as calmly as possible. I found that it had one chambered.  I asked my friend, "What the fuck is wrong with you having the clip in let alone having a round chambered????"  I was livid.  He answered "Someone might come through the door!"  FFS

Unfuckingbelievable.  Needless to say, that was the end of visitations with my kid.
