As you've likely heard, the Twitter accounts of several high-profile people like Elon Musk, Kim Kardashian, Bill Gates, and Barack Obama were hijacked in a Bitcoin scam that netted less than $120k. Indications are that this was a very sophisticated attack on Twitter's systems themselves, not the individual users.
The question becomes: what was the objective of the attackers? It feels implausible that the sole purpose was to grift a relatively paltry amount of money. And it's not like they could have reasonably expected to make much more - the scam was destined to be shut down quickly.

False front action to prevent the admission of Twatter posts as "speech" in court by showing reasonable doubt as to the source?

Apparently, at a minimum the hackers learned personal phone numbers and e-mail addresses associated with the compromised accounts, as well as accessing direct messages. (In addition to any money.)
