Well this spawned an interesting email conversation with my sons at University and ended up with me writing this to them:

Emmeran wrote:

It has been said that the only true power in our universe is Time and therefore the youth of the day hold the power of the future in their hands.

But it has also been proven that the Fires of the Forge of Change are fed with sweat, blood and souls for the heat required for change must be hot enough to melt worlds and minds.  The fuel which fires heat that hot consumes all…

The last major change in America was forged before our Huxleyan Society came into existence, during a time when individuals would toil and think during the daylight hours and collect their thoughts on paper during the lull of the evening.  It seems the brave souls of today neither toil nor lull – Netflix, Games and YouTube are the current points of reference and dialog at the pub is non-existent.

I wonder if the forge of change will ever burn hot enough again or are we simply left with the soldering iron of complaint?

Pure Poetry.  Well put.

I am writing a memorial for a friend that took his life in May.  He was in his early 50's, a Gulf War Veteran, an amazing man, teacher (who taught my son in Middle & High School), someone I counseled over the years. His passing has left a huge hole in our community.

We would run into each other at demonstrations, he with his veteran group, me with the raggle-taggle family of friends and anarchist. He came to our Solstice Gatherings, bringing a huge bundle of happiness and energy.

I saw him 3 days before he passed.  He came over, and we talked for 4 hours. He dropped a hint, I missed it. Jesus. He leaves behind a widow and 2 sons.

He was dealing with PTSD, from a rotten upbringing to a rotten little war, to losing a job he loved and more.  We talked about the Fascist marching in our streets, and discussed how we as older guys could help protect our town from what we both knew was/is coming.

We had made plans that day, but 3 days later, he was gone.
---
These are hard times, and I have come to believe we need hard times to hone, and sharpen our minds. I sure wish he had stayed. I have been trying to free my friend in my mind.  It is harder for my son and his friends.  This is the first suicide for them all.

On The State of the Nation:
We need to build bridges so we don't have a repeat of the 1860's.  If we were to have a conflagration like we did then, and in comparative size... that would mean 6 million dead.  2 percent of the population.  People are too damn eager to pick up a gun, like I said, build bridges if you can. We need to reach out, and do it now.  If it means not talking about politics, finding common ground, then let us try that.  Life is too short.

The Morons overwhelm the world and that's the end of us.  Good luck, next dominant species!

This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but with a whimper.

Given a 30 rnd. magazine of 5.56 (audio doesn't come off as .223) I'd say the kid showed restraint.
Stuck only to those committing assault on his person.  Could have easily Breivik'd a few more hooligans.
Despite the GoFraudMe ban, his legal defense fund is going gangbusters.

Hate to break this to you but a 5.56 is a .223 under modern definition.  However historically the definition of caliber was a bit different.  Regardless, juveniles in Wisconsin are not allowed to carry a 5.56/.233 without direct supervision, so he was in violation of the law while he violated the law.

The report of each round is distinct.
Heard this multiple times...from a reliable source....

Unconstitutional laws...meh.  Time for some jury nullification methinks.

When you realize that he shot one of them in the back, well that smacks of murder. Remember kids, you can always fire a 223 round in a 556, but you can't shoot a 556 in a 223.

A shot in the back doesn't always equate murder n00b.  https://www.personaldefenseworld.com/20 … f-defense/
