Cats can attach to other critters in much the same way. I raised rabbits for food in the early 80s and was careful not to let the neighborhood's kids anywhere near them. I had nightmares of opening the freezer, with the voice of an anklebiter squealing in horror, "You killed Peter Rabbit!"

I didn't count on my cat making pals with those rodents, even acquiring a taste for their food. I locked him in my room while I skinned and cleaned them but the cat put two and two together, packed its bags and split. Any other cat I've had would have helped me eat them. I never saw Twitch again.

They should rename the dog "Norman."

Not to rain on anybody's parade, but my dog did this (a few times) with a flattened Possum.  Dogs like to roll in and play with corpses.  Maybe it was friendship, or maybe the dog just brought the cat along as the new fragrance, Eau de Mort.

Speaking of little animals, I'll share this... not really worthy of it's own thread, but enjoyable all the same.

There was nothing they could do.

Time to switch to raising dingoes.

The mice destroyed enough wheat to feed the entire state of Utah for nearly four years.

Why would anyone want to do that? We should be sending these mice to Utah!

"There was nothing they could do."

Flame-thrower.  I don't know if it would have successfully dealt with all the mice but it would have been fun as hell trying.

Don't rush your snake's feeding schedule on our account.

...Doesn't it take, like, hours and hours for the snake to swallow its meal?

I wasn't about to, but I like to feed him a couple midsized rats every couple of weeks.  It's a schedule that he seems to be happy with, at his current size (about 5'6").

Maybe a big snake eating a big meal.  I feed mine rodents that are significantly smaller than what he could swallow, to prevent possible asphyxiation.  Plus, then I get to watch him kill more than one rat at a time and I don't have to worry about him getting hurt by the rat, as at that size they can't really pierce his scales.

Last time I tried that I got bit, and while the bite from a red tailed boa isn't that bad, it's not something I care to repeat.

My point exactly....didn't they seller tell you NEVER let the snake associate your hand with food?  I had a friend that only fed his in the bathtub, the rat, nor the snake could get out...win win....and from what I've been told, feeding is a very intimate moment for the snake....no, not sexually....sheesh...

Although, "if it doesn't move, you fuck it, if it does, you eat it...."

Yeah, I knew about the association thing, but he wasn't going for the mouse like he should have and i was trying to tempt him with it.  This was back when I'd had the snake maybe three months.

I feed him, these days, in a 55 gallon aquarium tank I found by a dumpster (and cleaned the hell out of).  He can cling to the side of the aquarium and strike them from above.

Sometimes he'll kill his second rat while still holding his first rat up off the ground.  I've seen him kill and eat two rats like that without dropping them.  It was impressive.
