When differences in race, age, gender and family makeup were taken into account, students who'd had comprehensive sex education were 60 percent less likely to report a pregnancy than those without any sex education and 50 percent less likely than the abstinence-only group.

Okay, is it just me, or did that say abso-fucking-lutely nothing?

Yes, I realize this is fnords' cue....

A couple of years ago, I remember reading about a study that found that students who took the so-called "abstinence" or "no-sex-until-marriage" pledge were more likely to engage in even more risky sexual behaviors than students who did not take such pledges.  Let's face it, teenage naughty bits tend to be itchy, rubby things that demand a lot of attention.  They'll get their release whatever way they can, and for those "chastity pledge" types, that meant anything short of actual penis-to-vagina intercourse.  Anal sex rates and corresponding rates of infection (due to lack of protection, inadequate lubrication, etc., etc.) were higher, and, believe it or not, these girls were also more likely to give bo-bos as quickly as handshakes, under the premise that oral isn't really sex.

So, where the hell was abstinence education when I was in high school?

ok, true confessions time,  I was sucking dick before I learned to read...no, I wasn't a teen when I learned....  I'm SURE WTF, you have encountered "sexual" activity between your charges...Kids are curious, un-inhibited and they get around...no matter what the age.  I'm sure in the historical anthropological context, it was commonplace.  It's only now, with the real threat of disease and death, and the "imposed" moral beliefs that this is even an issue.

For the most part, K kids tend to get caught showing their "junk" to each other, and they don't even seem to care whether it's the same or the opposite sex.  That gets parents upset.  What bothers me, though, is the pressure these young'uns feel to have "girlfriends" and "boyfriends" before they even realize what kind of awfulness that entails, and the parents actually ENCOURAGE this and think it's cute!  Maybe it's a culture of poverty thing, but when even they can see what limits early parenthood put on their choices, you'd think they'd be the first to put the kibosh on it.  And, no, it's not limited to the "slutty Negro welfare queens"--it's common even among the poor who consider themselves devout "Christians."

60%...knew 100% what the safe alternatives were as opposed to the 50% that let the lies continue...

I’m going to ignore my cue to make a racial comment.  I’ve decided I’m all for abstinence education and slutty teens getting pregnant.  Wanna know why?  Because someone needs to subsidize my future Social Security and Medicare benefits!  So fuck yourselves silly all you ignorant horny teenagers and produce lots of taxpayers to support my soon to be old ass!

It seems to be saying that kids who have sex-ed classes are more likely to keep it a secret when they get knocked up.

We get it Lurker.  You're gay.  We are all aware of it.  We are all fine with that and love you for who you are.  You don't need to work the fact into every post you submit.  Really.  None of us are going to forget you're gay if you don't mention it in every thread.  If it worries you we can all stick yellow "Don't forget: Lurker's gay!" post-its on our monitors to insure we don't forget.

"We're building more and more evidence that [abstinence-only] education isn't having much effect," Kohler said. "Ultimately, what happens is that people have sex" eventually.

Well, yeah, because they know that they know better than to be fucking.  Actually, that worked pretty well for me, because above all other considerations, having my parents find out I was fucking was more horrifying, to me, than the knowledge that they were.

Then I went to college and I couldn't wait to go home on semester break and get caught going at it in their house...
