Homeowners associations are patently un-American, and this is even worse

[Canton, OH] City Council wants to beef up its existing high-grass and weeds law by making a second offense a fourth-degree misdemeanor, which is punishable by a fine of up to $250 and up to 30 days in jail.

They should just certify their yards as wildlife habitat.

Way to show off your problem solving skills Canton . . . throw them in jail and then pay to have it mowed.

Ummm . . . how about 48 hours of community service with a push mower or swing blade?  Gee Look!!  We solved two problems at one go!!!

When I saw this carried as a 'human interest' piece on the local news last night (we have our own issues with HOAs here, but very little in the way of grass to complain about, in many places), all I thought to myself was "How odd that they compel their residents to waste resources like that." What with several locations experiencing record-setting droughts and all of us feeling the pressure at the pump, it seemed like an unpopular time to enforce a draconian policy on landscaping.
