Thoroughly disappointing in my opinion.  The concept really had a lot going for it, and it had the potential to be a nice stragelove-esque dark comedy, but instead it was chock full of ham-handed metaphors and bad acting.  If I didn't have a thing for Marisa Tomei I would have turned it off half way through.  The writers and directors were both just trying way too hard.

Southland Tales is the same story through the other end of the colon. Is far superior in my opinion.

What can I say?  I'm not gay mind you but if I were I'd have a thing for John Cusack.  I like just about all of his movies.

He was great in "High Fidelity" which, in my experience, is a movie for which women don't seem to care.

No.  We don't.  The girlfriend character in High Fidelity is a paper cutout of a human being who does very little other than suffer at her boyfriend's hands, and then "settles" for him at the end of the story.  Maybe that explains why guys like it.  That one and Say Anything, in which Cusack plays a textbook stalker and it's supposed to be romantic.

It's a bit creepy that many if not most of the guys I know like/love both of those movies as "romances."  Husband™, gods bless him, is a Princess Bride kind of guy.

He's a complete dick in real life.  I can't stand him or his movies.

I agree with George.  The actress playing his girlfriend was fucking awful.  And the story, as Cusack tells it, gives men the idea that even if you are a piece of shit loser with a huge ego and no career path, you will be able to land a hot, successful, if not amazingly boring woman who is willing to put up with your shit for reasons having nothing to do with reality.

Having read the book, I have to say he did a shitty job in the execution of the story.

The only movie I liked Cusack in was "Better Off Dead" and even then we had to be subjected to his speech-impediment-having-sister.

Oh, and the only reason to watch "High Fidelity" is for Jack Black.

I refuse to rise to the bait.  Husband™ only tells lies to the authorities.

Since we're all bashing on John Cusack, I feel compelled to say that he's quite a good actor, whatever else he may be; and Grosse Point Blank is a fantastic movie, which you should see if you haven't already.

The only reason to watch that movie is Andre the Giant.  His scenes are all great.

The rest of it bores me.

What you don't smell is called iocaine powder. It is odorless, tasteless, dissolves instantly in liquid, and is among the more deadly poisons known to man.

Wesley: "Where am I?"
Evil Albino with real raspy voice: "The Pit of Despair! Don't even think... ACK!..." (albino's voice clears and becomes pleasant) "...don't even think about trying to escape."

The Princess Bride is quite possibly the perfect movie.  It will not be everyone's favorite (nothing ever will), but it has the widest possible appeal to people of varying ages, genders, cultures, etc.  I'm sure there's someone out there that doesn't like it, but there aren't many.

It will certainly go down as one of the all time top date movies.
