This could be rudely true...

Here's a true story, and it just happened to me yesterday.  It was hot here (mid-90's) and I was driving into town when I saw an elderly woman walking on the side of the road.  I stopped and offered her a ride.  She was well dressed and didn't smell bad, which was a relief.  When she got in my car she immediately told me how her grown live in son had just beaten her and rubbed her face in the gravel driveway.  She took off her sunglasses and showed me the evidence, which was pretty convincing.  I assumed she was going to town for medical treatment and possibly to report the crime, so I offered to take her to the hospital or the police station.  She declined and asked me to drop her off at the nearest market so she could buy some beer to take back home.
