I am sick of the arguing on the Cat Thread.  The Cat Thread is for pictures and videos, not for pointless bickering.

Therefore, I present the Dog Thread.  Feel free to re-christen it if you can think of a cleverer name.

And what doggish item would be appropriate to inaugurate the Dog Thread, you ask?  I answer:

Now keep the dogs out of the Cat Thread already.

Here's a picture of my favorite dog of all time.....   His name was Digger and he was my best buddy from when I was a Junior in high school until about three years ago when he died....  He was a great guy and his favorite things were taking drives and looking at deer and antelope...

Digger also liked pickups and the family ranch a lot...  When I was with Digger it wasn't like I was a guy with his dog, it was as if we were equals...  Digger had one problem, he was a sneak thief and his favorite thing to steal was chocolate...

This is my dad's current "dog"....  She was found barely alive with a couple of bullets in it laying out on the prairie...  The Game and Fish was called to see if she was a wolf and she fit the criteria of being a wolf in every aspect other than her size which was a little too small...  Since she's not officially a wolf it's now legally a family pet....

What's her behavior like?  From the pic she looks like a big ole softie.  Beautiful coat.

She's very wimpy...  If you look at her wrong she'll lay her ears back or roll over on her back to show her belly..... She has quit doing it as much as she used to, but that trait is still there...  The one nice aspect about her having the omega qualities is that she was extremely easy to train...  She's extremely well mannered now and lives amongst the family cats and other dogs in peace....

I miss having a dog, but my living situation really doesn't allow it.  I had a couple of German Shepherds when I was a kid.  Great dogs, even if they were completely racist.

German Shepherds are my favorite. We had one named Bootes when I was a kid, and though I'd dearly love to have one again, the apartment I live in is too small for a breed large enough for me to love; i.e., it would be cruel to pen up such a beautiful animal, even though plenty of my neighbors own these yippy little pieces of shit.

Ours were Mittsy and Bootsy.  Mittsy somehow became Misty after a while.  They were siblings, and had a few litters of deformed puppies together.  The worst were the ones without lips that had to be put down before they starved to death.  We'll never be sure if it was the fact that they were siblings, or the birth control shots that made the puppies come out not quite right.

(that was while we were still in rural Argentina, so surgery wasn't an option)

Like Em said, dogs always have to have a pal.  This is our Sable, with her late pal, Toby, behind her.  He got the name "Toby" because he was black and he liked to run away, at least until his foot got hurt.  Sable's not alone anymore--a kitten hired us to be his staff this summer, and spends a lot of his outside time each day palling around with/tormenting his large pal.

Speaking of pals, My parents had a dog named Sammie.  She was the very best kind of mutt.  A little smaller than a lab with dark black medium length hair and a sharp mind which she would only employ in coming up with new ways to steal food.  Her pal was a cat that lives with me now, that lived with her from when he was a kitten.  She would let him roughhouse with her as much as he wanted until he finally crossed the line, and then she would pin him to the ground by his throat, but that wouldn't deter him for long.  He would sit there and bite her lip while she was trying to sleep, or start mauling her tail.

That cat is still kind of an asshole, but he's mellowed a lot in his old age.  Now he excels at looking malnourished and garnering sympathy from my neighbors, much to my chagrin.  The Chinese lady downstairs gave me a cat bed for him to sleep in for the winter, or at least that's what I gathered from her broken English.  I can't tell if it's because she and her daughters like him, or if they just think I'm a terrible owner.  Ah, well, c'est la vie (or c'est le chat?).

We a little scratch-n-sniff doggy smell in this thread to give it a dose of reality.

I will second the sticking, if the cat recipes one can stand. I don't predict as much activity, but here's to humping your leg and calling you emotionally shallow.
