Gack! I posted this in the morning and while driving downtown for lunch, I noticed they're putting up these damn things at an intersection I travel through nearly every day. Bastards!

Either you live/work in Tempe, AZ, or this is a fad that's just catching on. Think about it: Santa suit: perfect disguise for anonymity. Santas, they are legion.

I live in N. California, and, unfortunately, it is a fad that is catching on everywhere. The whole process is an unholy setup. The company that makes the cameras puts them up for free. The city council increases the fine for running a red light (or even getting caught in the intersection by traffic). The installing company gets a handsome percentage and the cities cut a fat hog from the fines. I even read about one instance where the timing of the yellow light was shaved to catch more drivers living on the margin. Fortunately, this was not in California, and the offending city got busted for it, but there remains the potential for abuse. I think I'll invest in a Santa suit.
