Seriously, what planet do they get LAPD officers from? What did they seriously hope to find, some gangbanger with a gun glued to his forehead?

In my thought seven square miles is too many grid squares for a local force to control at any given time.
Go figure LA.

There is a weird legacy from the Union Busting/Red Scare/Race Baiting Past of the L.A.P.D. ... I have talked to a few over the years and they always said that they were told that they were an extension of the US military. Weird. I asked them if they thought martial law was in force? Always to the affirmative on that.

I think it all started when we stopped calling them "Peace Officers".

The LAPD are a bit different. A few years back when I was in L.A. I was waiting for a record store to open up so I could buy a CD in the Huntington Park area. The store was supposed to open in fifteen minutes so I decided I would just wait in my car. Before you knew it two bicycle cops showed up and started asking questions and it wasn't long until another officer in a car pulled up to assist. They kept telling me that what I was doing was suspicious, but I'm not sure how waiting fifteen minutes for a store to open would be. The next day I had just parked my car in a parking garage to get out and walk around downtown L.A. and see the sights. Just as I was getting out of my car a cop showed up asking what my business there was because a parking attendant thought my being there was suspicious. Not sure if they're wary of people that have out of state plates or not, but I was getting really pissed at their bullshit and harassment.

No pipe. At least with the Old Bill you know what you are dealing with. Here, you live the illusion and pretend you don't understand.

C'mon Dusty, I live here and have friends on the force - outside of the callousness that slowly builds from dealing with the dregs of society - they are good people*. Most eventually transfer to one of the Beach cities once they have enough seniority and a desire for a normal life.
(* Outside of the 10% shitheads you get in any group of people)

Yes, I can well imagine you are friends with the police. I never thought otherwise. The dregs being the working class, and anyone of colour of course, which is more than likely removed from any contact that you probably have. Sure there are good people everywhere, just fewer in percentile on the police force.

Seeing as most everyone where I live is working class and there really aren't very many people of color the police have had to get inventive. They like cracking down on business owners for letting people smoke in their own building, they go into stores taking away the sex toys, they shut down convenience stores because a nudie magazine wasn't properly covered up, they investigate reports of nude dancing, kids sexting, etc.. All the churches in the area banded together about three years ago to get their congregations politically active and now life here is becoming increasingly miserable for everyone. After sending multiple emails to the church's website making what I felt were good moral arguments for them to stop they finally posted one of them on their main page with a long response. Too bad they didn't choose one of my intellectually made arguments, they chose a drunken rant that I made at two in the morning. Fuckers.

For the record: the dregs aren't the working class - the dregs are the scum of the earth who would rather steal than work. As far as diversity, I can motherfucking gauruntee I have more personal contact with ethnic, color, religion, sexual orentation, etc on a daily basis than 95% of the liberal caste on here. We can even build a comparison chart - but you are going to have to go a long way to counter the twink-Paki-muslim who serves as my right hand man or the nappieheaded-yardie-nascar-ho I hired to run my help desk.
Hell, I even hired a New Jersian.

If there ever is a high street get together it should be in Vegas at a casino with a boxing ring. There we could get rid of the years of built up anger and tension we have towards one another.

Put Em in the ring by himself. I don't ascribe to that stuff. Anyways, when he isn't putting his foot in his mouth he is an okay kind of guy.

I'll second that. Besides, I'd rather watch HKG face off with fnord, the winner to Jello wrestle RT. If fnord is too wimpy to get in the ring, then he'd be the obvious choice to provide the color commentary.

I'm having a nice drink right now as a matter of fact but that still doesn't detract from you terming my hardworking neighbors as the "dregs" of society. We need machinist's, school teachers and truck drivers; these folks almost never interact with the pooolice and don't deserve you labeling them as the "dregs of society" just because they vote republican.

The LAPD, The FBI, and the CIA are all trying to prove that they are the best at apprehending criminals. The President gets tired of the bickering and decides to give them a test. He releases a rabbit into a forest and each of them has to catch it.
The CIA goes in. They place animal informants throughout the forest. They question all plant and mineral witnesses. After three months of extensive investigations they conclude that rabbits do not exist.
The FBI goes in. After two weeks with no leads they burn the forest, killing everything in it, including the rabbit, and they make no apologies. The rabbit had it coming.
The LAPD goes in. They come out two hours later with a badly beaten bear, who is yelling: "Okay! Okay! I'm a rabbit! I'm a rabbit!
