Many members of my family, along with myself, are veterans of literally lifetimes of hurricane seasons, and we all agree that the right things to do are everything in both columns of the above list--PLUS one essential item which is missing from both columns, something that everyone always seems to run short of:

Hello, from Hampton Roads.
When I put the lawn furniture away, I also packed the fridge with a case of cheap beer. More for after the storm, nothing's worse than trying to climb a ladder, in high winds with a buzz on.
We are hoping for a less that 7' surge (FEMA says we are sitting up at a whopping 7.5'). I kind of pissed of my wife by making the kids pack their own bug-out bags. She kept saying stuff like, "Stop trying to scare the kids." She's got the "Blah, blah, blah. Moan. Complain, etc." Covered.

Ok, people it's 10PM. The eye of the storm stayed out to sea and never got much closer than 20Nm or so. The storm surge didn't materialize (in my area at least). And it might be a little premature, but I am calling this one finished.
Still some high winds, though and shit keeps bouncing off my roof. A few transformers have blown up but I still have power, and might still have it in the morning.
Isabel was worse.

The reason I'll be without power until the weekend (if I'm lucky). I'm not happy about it, but it fell right and didn't kill my next door neighbor so I can't really bitch.
I've snagged a little generator last night so finally I have lights and entertainment, but alas my well is about 150' and I'm short on amps. I have to drink liquor and stink until the water comes back on, but fortunately I've trained intensively for that very situation.

On 8/29, Hurricane Katrina drowned New Orlean. News of Katrina also drowned the news of Sheehan's anti-war bus trip. Following Sheehans north bound bus trip, another hurricane Ophelia in parallel way drew the eye balls of public. Three weeks later hurricane Rita which was blew up by the media as stronger than Katrina landed on Texas same day (9/24) the peace demonstration took place in DC. Today, media still talked about Katrina sometimes. Rare people knew there was a big anti-war protest in Washington at the same time. This was how an anti-war movement was distracted by Pentagon's climate alteration weapon.
On 9/17/2005, I warned that a terror attack would happen on 9/24 if a framed case on me would have gone through.
