What a shame.  Balling the jack over a bridge arched to let big ships underneath is almost as much fun as a high speed tunnel run with the windows down.  Fearing both?  Why bother driving?

When I was very young, I was terrified of the Carquinez Strait bridge.  Since we had many relatives in Vallejo,  it was a fear I faced often.  It still feels different from any other piece of roadway.

None of this bridge shit makes any sense to me, the only thing I fear is being stuck with Phreddy and his politics during a 6 day blizzard in a cabin in Montana; makes my head hurt just to think about it.

Way back in the '70's I crossed the bridge with my family.  My dad bravely drove us across.  He pointed out that there were bums hanging around that you could hire to drive your car over, if you were afraid of heights.  Back then it wasn't a service, it was just vagrants looking for a way to make a quick buck.

I am not sure why this article is appearing now.  I guess because, after generations of car ownership, people should be grown up enough to drive on their own.
