No surprises here. Remember median is NOT average. What our number means is that we have a hellavalot of  of lower income people. The average is much higher as the income heavy 1% skew the numbers.

I wasn't surprised to see Singapore & Luxembourg so high but I also wonder if this is per citizen or per resident.

Note this is a chart of wealth, not income.  I would imagine high personal debt levels have a lot to do with our position.  No surprise Japan is near the top, but Italy?
