A&E suspends Phil Robertson for homophobic remarks. This is one they may regret since Duck Dynasty is the highest rated cable show in history. The guy may be a homophobe, but he is entitled to his opinion and I predict a shit storm of backlash on A&E.

Apparently he thinks he's made enough money, if so then more power to him. Otherwise shut the fuck up on topics which can only hurt your income stream. It's just not that hard, turn on brain and turn off mouth and then cash check.
Seriously, who gives a flying duck regarding his opinion of Drake humpers?

If every liberal celebrity who shot off his/her mouth about issues they know nothing about was sacked, there wouldn't be anyone left in Hollywood.
I'm betting it is A&E which will be paying the biggest price in this case. Although I am not a fan of the show, it is immensely popular. He and his family can name their price at another network, assuming there are no legal roadblocks to the move.
Edit: As if to help make my point, a FB page calling for the boycott of A&E was launched yesterday. It currently has 750,000 likes.

Phred, A&E is more a homo sanctuary than the Vatican and I'm sure its employment contract spells out must-suck-dick, bend over and sign here. Tard hasn't an xian prayer so go ahead, name your wager.

Did you read my edit? 750,000 FB likes in less than 24 hours. I'm guessing that alone is more than ever watch other A&E programs. Tune in tomorrow and read about how A&E is the one bent over.
Edit: If you want to follow the numbers yourself, check this out. There are currently 802,000 likes. Wait a minute. Three minutes they added another 30,000.

Now, ask me if I'm in any way surprised that there are at least 832,000 ignorant rednecks on Face Book.
Certainly Phil has the right to publicly make any racist or homophobic statements that might pop into his inbred brain. A&E has the right to take him off the air, so there's the end of the story.

And God, every FB "Like" is worth, what $75.00 in today's market?
Or maybe "Like"s translate into votes or something, and now he gets to be a senator or CEO of A&E?
Or can he trade in all those "Like"s for dates with women?
Or something?
What?

I was born and raised in that town. If A&E had spent five minutes researching that place, they would have figured out pretty much that every body there hates the queers and the blacks. We tried to elect David Duke for Christ's sakes. For bonus fun, go read the comments from the local newspaper there. They are trying to figure out if black people have ever duck hunted before.

As I said when I posted this thread, the guy is a homophobe. I'm certainly not trying to defend his language. Just sayin' he has a right to his own opinion.
The part of the story I like is that A&E assumed they were in the driver's seat, when, in fact, they are the tail of a very big dog. The FB site now has 1.4 million likes and yesterday someone launched a petition to demand Phil's return. That garnered more than 80,000 signatures during the first 9 hours. It's at about 113,000 now. Add to this all the news pundits, conservative talk show hosts, and politicos. Does anyone believe this doesn't tighten sphincters at A&E?

Yeah, I think A&E miscalculated on this one. The DD guys are now threatening to take their ball and go play in someone else's yard.... and given they have the #1 reality show on TV, that's a pretty damn big stick.
Plus, the A&E guys are being horribly disingenuous - there are existing videos of this guy goin off on gays and such... either they are so horribly inept that they didn't do their research before giving him this platform, or they knew and are now feigning outrage. Either way, it's for sure they're bozos.
As for me, I kind of agree with the guy... I mean, a vagina is infinitely more interesting to me than a man's anus. Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course.
(Though, for the life of me I cannot understand what the interest is in that show - and I'm a hunter.)

I'm with you on this Sailor. I get it that producers of these shows need to manufacture conflicts and unlikely scenarios because reality isn't all that interesting. But, let's stop calling them reality shows and call them what they are; low budget soap operas featuring mildly entertaining amateur characters.

1. He's got a right to his opinion, whether we like it or not, and censorship of one person is the slippery slope that leads to censorship of everyone. People will vote with their remotes, and that will be the end of it. Or they'll prove yet again that they're morons, which should surprise no one.
2. The amount of media coverage talking head jibber-jabber devoted to this is, as usual, insane. I know I just came down on censorship, but there should be some sort of time limit on how long you can milk something like this.
3. Why is this even a thing? It's not like he's a world leader or something. The man wears a camouflage tuxedo to formal events. It's not like his opinion is going to result in some sort of law where anuses have to be sealed with a glue gun or something.
Seriously, why is everyone in a tizzy about this? This is like blowing up at Kim Kardashian for saying something awful about orphans or Snookie for...being Snookie, I guess. Attention whores live off this shit like vampires. The less attention paid to it, the better. Eventually the 15 minutes runs out and they die.

Sorry, that's not how our world works. A right to an opinion carries a responsibility to accept the consequences of that opinion. And the company you work for has a right to impose public behavioral standards on threat of termination.

Those comparison pics are over quite the stretch of time. Trust me. All Monroeians strive to get to this look eventually. My mother married a blue eyed lady's man and divorced her version of Uncle Si after he refused to bathe during her last three deer hunting seasons with him.
Besides, "redneck guy" has always been nothing but a marketing tool. Have you ever pulled up a Larry the Cable Guy "early years" video. He's kind of gay and definitely not the persona we know now.

Correcto! But it cuts both ways. The employee has the right to ask his friends and supporters to boycott your company. It then becomes a contest of wills (and bleeding bank accounts). The loser must swallow his pride and submit, or suffer the consequences.

The only part of this story that I find amusing is watching Hannity and Coulter one-upping each other. They've gone all First Amendment on it, although I am not sure what the Bill of Rights has to do with it. Even better, they characterize it all as nothing more than the left torturing Christians for their beliefs (although I am not sure what bible verse they rely on for the contention that minorities were happier before the civil rights era). We all must pity the poor beleaguered majority!

Yup, just like a strike. Well it used to be, until we outlawed those actions by unions so the tax dollars would continue to flow through to the politicians. Of course then the Union Leaders, the politicians and the Corporations all got in bed together and fucked the workers and the shareholders.
Ahh, the stories of the old UAW/Corporate/Politico confederation do so warm my heart as I sit before the Yule Log. Seriously they did it so well that in the end of the day the common taxpayer ended up paying everyone! You have to love innovation and unfettered capitalism.

In a way, it's nice that the Quack Pack will continue to remind America that Christianity is all about hating gay people, voting for tax cuts for rich people, opposing health care and food for the poor, opposing paying a living wage to working people whenever possible, opposing sex education and fertility management, and placing as many people as possible in private prisons for victimless crimes like smoking pot in the privacy of one's home. I'm sure reminding the public of these things will result in electoral victories for Republican candidates and increased membership in Christian churches.

The absurdity of this entire situation smacks of blatant poll pandering and I've come of the opinion that the old quack master here will eventually come out as a fervent cock-sucker if that's what it takes to buoy the ratings.

Like Cracker Barrel, A&E woke up to who this show appeals to. Lets be honest, gay people (and kneegrows) don't eat or shop at Cracker Barrel. They also don't watch Duck Dynasty. There's no profit in appeasing people who don't pay your bills. Any idiot can see that an apology has never worked, that one loses the show or job anyway, so why pucker up and kiss the unwashed pucker star of the offended group? It's more honorable to go out telling the professional offended groups to eat shit with Sriracha sauce.
