If the Forest Service has its way, commercial photographers taking photos or video in wilderness and other federally controlled areas would need a permit costing up to $1500. The National Press Photographers Association doesn't like the fact that the content of the story associated with the graphics would be considered in the permit process. After all, it's not your land, it is the government's land. Wouldn't want anything to negatively reflect on our government.

Commercial-filming permits currently run anywhere from $30 a day for up to three people to as much as $800 per day for production involving dozens of people.
A separate proposal would charge as much as $1,500 for the bigger film productions involving dozens of people on federal lands.
It's about commercial filming, not news media or private photography, which is protected by the First Amendment. If they want to charge people for shooting another shitty slasher in the woods film on Federal (our) land, I'm all for it. You should see what that Indian tribe charges film crews to shoot in Monument Valley.
