That's quite a bit of hype in the title of the article. 

It's very interesting but, as is constantly shown here, you can't change people's minds when they "believe" something.  If scientists ever manage to spontaneously create life, those people will just declare them to be Anti-Christ, buy more guns, and await the coming Apocalypse in front of their TVs.

I disagree.  I think the average American will be clamoring for, e.g., blue-furred kittens that sing like canaries or a monkey that can make you a pizza and program your DVR or an actual honest-to-god unicorn for their daughter's fifth birthday, and they'll pout about having to go on a waiting list because demand is so high.
