It's all silly anyway, it's like with television. Was Philo Farnsworth the person who invented television? No, but he's the one that got the whole industry off the ground.
For all we know, some drunk a-hole in the 16th century with a hand crank and da Vinci's flying machine invented powered flight. The Wright Brothers were the ones that made powered flight viable and popular, so they win.
