I don't know, after that entire Maginot Line debacle we (the USA) kind of got it in our head that we could go in anywhere the French had problems and do a better job. Look how well that shit worked out for us over the past 75 years.
If the Gauls back out of a fight it's really best just to avoid the situation entirely, you might not lose but you'll sure as hell know you didn't win.
