Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez wants to give you 100 gallons of free heating oil to help survive the cold cruel capitalist winter. The hogshead of liquid warmth is available to anyone enduring a financial hardship who fills out a handy online form.

What, like rubbing in our faces that we can't even take care of our own people yet we can spend money killing over in Iraq instead?
Perhaps he's trying to stress that living in a dictatorship with no free speech is a better way of living than capitalism.
Nothing like a backhanded compliment I guess.

The truth is we CAN'T take care of our own. Or at least won't. I think it is a perfect slap in the face. If I were in the position of Chavez, I would let fly with the same open hander.

Check out the book Oil on the Brain to really understand how Chavez is using the USA as much as the US has used Venezuela. Mr. Dic. is still the No. 1 oil importer to the US, and we wouldn't have it any other way. By the way, he is destroying his country's ecology and the health of its citizens for the world's insatiable thirst for oil.
The book itself is a quick read which takes you from the pump at the local Kwik-E-Mart to the distributors, refineries, oil futures market, oil fields (Venezuela, Chad, Nigeria, Saudi, etc.) and finishes with a trip through China to see what will happen with the rest of the supply of the worlds oil. Fun read, much in the same way "Stiff" is an interesting read on corpses.

Hugo is simply using the old tried and true liberal tactic of buying the support of the ignorant and ill-informed by fostering class warfare. Just listen to the Democrat front runners talk about how they're going to steal from the rich and give to the poor. But the "rich" are too smart to let that happen and the poor only get enough to remain in economic bondage begging at the feet of the very politicians who keep them there.

Canada is the US's Number 1 source of oil, not Venezuela. Chavez probably is fucking the environemt of Venezuela.

Same tired old shit. Righties always want to connect up socialists with liberals and/or Democrats. One big monolithic enemy to you, huh?

Sorry Fled, but I see little difference between Socialists and the leftist Dems running the party today. If they had the power to do so the Dem leadership would socialize medicine and other services, place onerous taxes on corporations and "rich" people (AKA the hand that feeds them), and nationalize our energy production and distribution (AKA fuck big oil).

IF I'm not mistaken, Charlie Rangel has proposed a major reduction in tax rates for corporations. As for nationalizing energy production, I have no idea why you believe that.
On health care, different Democrats have many different proposals. Do you feel about Romney's Massachusetts program qualifies a "socialized"? How about Huckabee's program? "Socializing" medicine, if that means a national program that ensures that every citizen has health insurance, seems to have very broad acceptance. But I think the term "socialize" is often misused, as in suggesting that all health care would be provided at government run facilities, or that people would not be free to purchase whatever health care the market makes available.
You are probably right that Democrats would impose higher taxes on the wealthiest taxpayers. Still, that hardly sounds like Chavez to me. Now, when people start to call Chavez "satan" or the "devil" -- that sounds a lot more like Hugo.

You are out of your noggin Phred.
The one thing that the previous Clinton and Bush presidencies showed us it is that there is little actual difference between Rep and Dem administrations. Beyond the obvious point that they were both big government porkbarrel spending whores and beholden to business special interest groups more than anything else, Clinton turned out to be more rightish than some of the current GOP candidates.
You are only fooling yourself if you think Hillary, Obama, Pelosi or the vast leftwing conspiracy you seem to have swallowed hook line and sinker would be any different than what's come before.
The actual socialists I know are disgusted with the lot of em.
