When I was circulating inside the Beltway it always amazed me how many cardinals and catholic bishops were always found at the best parties and circulating at any and all fancy pants functions. Of course, it's always been a "career" for many old-money sons without the intestinal fortitude for Wall Street or the State House, and they are invited for their connections to their powerful families, so you can't hit up a dinner party in Georgetown without tripping over at least one or two.

In any political climate where politics and money are supposed to be separate, the church's sons always make the best bag men and greasers.
