The head of the Environmental Protection Agency has broken months of silence about his frequent premium-class flights at taxpayer expense, saying he needs to fly first class because of unpleasant interactions with other travelers.

I call bullshit. Not 1 in 100,000 people could pick this schmoe out of a lineup. There have been exactly zero cases of security having to be involved on any flight in which he has ever flown in a professional capacity.

“We live in a very toxic environment politically, particularly around issues of the environment,” said Pruitt, who confirmed to the newspaper that he had flown first class from Washington to Boston before continuing on to New Hampshire. “We’ve reached the point where there’s not much civility in the marketplace and it’s created, you know, it’s created some issues and the (security) detail, the level of protection is determined by the level of threat.”

Pruitt is the first EPA administrator to have a 24-hour security detail that accompanies him at all times, even at the agency’s headquarters in Washington. He has also taken other security precautions, including the addition of a $25,000 soundproof “privacy booth” to prevent eavesdropping on his phone calls and spending $3,000 to have his office swept for hidden listening devices.

So I have to ask, as the head of an organization that is ostensibly a watchdog for the rights of the common citizen, *who* is he worried about spying on his behavior or threatening his person? Logging and oil lobbyists? Or Brightstar Angelflake to come down out of her tree house and get patchouli oil all over his $2500 suit?

You already know the answer to all those questions.

It's also how you get your Federal witnesses to testify.  If it's a Federal investigation, usually every fucking body is guilty.

My grandfather and my old man both got dragged before such proceedings and I thought at the time, 'hah, those fucksticks'll finally get their comeuppance', but nope, both walked. Got paid for their trouble, too.

He paid $2500 for THAT suit?  I got the EXACT same suit for $1k from Brooks Bros. on 5th Ave, I guess I have to worry about Brightstar Angelflake now also...

Fucking Trump people, wannabe's from the get go.

“And, so, ingress and egress off the plane … that’s all decisions all made by our (security) detail team, by the chief of staff, by the administration. I don’t make any of those decisions. They place me on the plane where they think is best from a safety perspective.”

Guys, nevermind all the blather. I think you are missing the point. This is about money and entitlements and always has been. The original report on his activities contained the explanation. Federal rules only allow access to first class in a few specific instances. He did not qualify for the others, and only a "security need" could be used. So he had to manufacture one for every flight.

Exactly. I'ts not about *need*, but having a bigger entourage than your competition. If he could wear a cardinals pointy hat too, he would.

I think even that gives him too much credit.  He thought he was entitled to first class and then his staff comes up with a "plausible" excuse when it turns out he's not.

But then again, first class on continental flights just isn't worth the spend.  Business class I get but first class is simply a waste.  International flights - first class is occasionally worth it just for the sleep factor on a short business trip.  But local flights, it's a complete joke.
