No one who writes that well hides their light under a bushel. My best guess is some indigent freelance (there's no other kind) happened across this hustle, then wrote a "firsthand" account of it.

Change Land Rovers to just about anything else and there is someone out there looking for help moving it invisibly through ports. Hang around any commercial docks for a while and you get to know where the cargo moves quietly. But I can't believe that they are hiring yokels off of craigslist, I'm guessing you have to come recommended by someone on the inside to get the gig.
