We've had a good run, way more than the 150 years or so that some of them had.
But now even the general public sees an America in Decline and no faith in our politicians to fix it.

You're thinking too small. I'm less worried about the end of America than I am the end of the species. Too many of us are too concerned with money worry about our survival.
We only got, what, 100,000 years? Those pea-brained dinosaurs managed to make it tens of millions...

It's all related. The people whom we elected have placed themselves high above us are going to destroy everything through avarice and sheer incompetence. Science offers hope but no morality/advice on how to use the tools they have given us. If we can't get our shit together in 100 years, it won't matter a bit about 100,000.
