People seem to forget that even 100 year and 1000 year floodplains will, well, flood. It is amazing that the Mississippi is flooding way the hell up there. Makes you wonder what the downstream denizens have to look forward to?

Bottom lands are rich alluvial plains because of regular flooding. People: "Lets build houses there!"
