I remember as a child in Canada, being under the flight way in spring when clouds, absolute clouds of birds coming from the south, and the same going south in the autumn. The sky would be dark for days with them. Sadness.

The first ever national crop recall focused on cranberries in 1959, two years before Rachel Carson's Silent Spring focused a global target on pesticide toxins. By then the diversity of sea birds we were accustomed to seeing were already gone. Several of our neighbors hand bred and released wild duck and pheasant. Sixty years later, nobody's learned a fucking thing.
