Can't even begin to tell you the number of California people now living in Texas.  It rivals the Ohio and Michigan people back in the late 70's.  It's driving the local Nazi Republican Party crazy since it's mostly Liberal Democrats coming here.

So many of CA's wastrels fled to OR in the early 70s, Portland's nomads redrew the path of I-5 to dogleg east and north through Idaho for posters and postcards, before they migrated to Colorado and Montana and became dental floss tycoons.

The exodus north from California (and a surprising number of Vermonters, Kentuckians, New Yorkers have rendered Portland Metro unlivable for the working class/artist on the main.  Housing is ridiculous here.  Had Californian friends/artist move to Iowa City.  "Oh we love it". The winters not so much.

College towns wear thin after a while. I lived nearby Iowa City for years and never visited once. Winters and summers are both brutal.

Wasn't Portland's motto, once-upon-a-time, "Don't Californicate Oregon!"?

Yeah that's Californication.

Iowa City is just north of the winter line, that's the line where depending upon the year it goes from fucking cold to "witches tits in a brass bra" cold.  There is another line just south of the Bakken in the Dakota's but the term for that kind of cold is a bit too rough for even this forum.  Just trust me in saying that no one lives up on the northern high plains for a very good reason.

And college towns?  Those are like the big city, best left to the youthful idiots.

BTW:  I'm back after a rough week.  My favorite car died, my Mother died and my mentor in Massachusetts died; it was a rough 36 hours.  Today I'm sitting alone at home mourning and drinking, tomorrow we get back at it.

Thank you fellas, you guys are the best Pub mates a man could wish for.  To each their time will come and the best anyone can hope for is to not leave a mess behind.

Some people think the world will end in fire, some think it will end in ice; but for the majority of us it will simply end in exhaustion, frustration and long held regrets...
