Here's hoping that the one laptop per child program takes off so starving third world residents can be treated to images of our first world dogs eating porterhouse steaks.

If the above link does not work try the one below and click on the picture of the dog's face.

....and then scroll to picture 10.

Too much work for too little return, I'm afraid.

Laptops DO require power, correct?  It's almost as bad as Adam Sandler giving x-boxes to the bombed out Israeli kids a few years ago....stupid fuck...

Ah, an additional fuck around from Yahoo. Oh well the comment probably sums up the situation better than the photo ever could.

As far as the power thing goes, the one laptop program computers are powered by a hand cranked generator that charges the battery. The internet access is provided by a donated sattelite, WiFi hotspot, or through cell towers (common even in the third world). The machine they built is actually very well thought out, and suited to the targeted environment. As for the actual positive impact that will be created, I will defer to those more versed in education, sociology, anthropology, and other disciplines that revolve around giving a shit about making the world a better place.

A friend of mine is involved in the program and from what he tells me - aside from a mountain of logistical issues - it really is an exciting deal. Yeah, there are scores of other issues that kids in the Third World are confronted with on a daily basis, but communications and education certainly are not among the least of them. When you consider how many people have been inspired by something they ran across on the Internet, putting a simple tool like this into the hands of children promises some pretty great stuff.

Is there a way we could put High Street links onto sites of interest to the third world?  I'm guessing former child soldiers could really liven this place up......

I hope Turd World children see the image of a dog being fed steak.  It will put their lives and their place in the world into proper perspective for them.

Edit: "word" corrected to "world".

Where people happen to be born is the only indicator of the quality of their personal worth, as people.

Which is (largely) a function of where you're born.
