What an incredible life he had.
1. When a scientist states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong.
2. The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.
3. Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

Shit. I had no idea he was that old.
I never much cared for the "Cosmic Babysitters Won't Let Us Get Ourselves Into Too Much Trouble" themes of his more famous works. But he was a damn good writer.

Yeah, as vocal as he was about atheism, you'd think that wouldn't be too big of a theme.
Regardless, Childhood's End is a motherfucker of a book.

Agreed. He was way too fond of (and dependent on) the "GREAT AND INCOMPREHENSIBLE THINGS FROM BEYOND!" plot device.

Well, considering that he himself is a great and incomprehensible thing from beyond now, show some goddamned respect.
Just kiddin'. But I am definitely a fan of his work.

Yeah, it's great for the first five or six books of his you read. After that start asking "when the hell will he introduce some fucking aliens that can be interacted with??"

Did anyone ever find out why he moved to Indonesia? I always figured it was because he was pedo-bear. Was there a less skeevy reason?

Actually, it was Sri Lanka, but I don't know the answer to that. He was apparently married very, very briefly back in the late 50s or early 60s.
I always wondered about it given the nature of the violence in that country between the government and the Tamil Tigers.
