Frankly I'm more worried about this new development:

Phreddy's Hero wrote:

“It’s ambiguous as to whether the president acted within his authority or not,’’ he said, saying courts had ruled different ways on the matter. “I’m not interested in going back. I’m interested in addressing the challenge we face to day of trying to do everything we can to counter organizations and individuals that want to destroy this country. So there’s ambiguity about it. Let’s move forward.’’

Phreddy's Hero 6 Months Ago wrote:

I do not fully trust the way that was edited. While the individual statements between cuts are disturbing enough in their insinuations the overall impact comes from how the cuts are linked. I want to see the full interview to get how he framed the sentances culled for this video.

I tried to find the original source but as is typical of blogs it was obscured and I gave up when it was difficult to search past posts of http://blog.beliefnet.com

Who said I was backing McCain?  Backing in to McCain support may be a better term.  He happens to be the lesser of evils.  As for Christianity and faith, every presidential candidate professes a strong spiritual faith.  We can only hope these are simply more campaign lies to placate the ignorant.

You can only hope his bill will never come due with those he placates, but to me that sounds a bit like magical thinking.

But I commend you on the dodge Phwred, Voting for the lesser is just backing by another term.

Come to think of it, I haven't heard anyone on this board singing "I've got a crush on Obama".  Do all you people really think he's the Messiah and not just another Chicago politician?

I think he's making some good claims about what he'll do, and it's anybody's guess as to whether he'll actually do them.

That being said, Whitey has had his chance to fuck up America, it's time to let the other immigrants in on the action.

The only things I've heard him say are "Change, steal from the rich, give to the poor, Change, surrender in Iraq, Change, raise taxes, Change, socialize medicine, Change, punish the companies that provide our jobs, Change!

I don't mind letting other immigrants have their chance to fuck up America.  It just bothers me that Americans would buy into such an explicit plan to fuck up America.

I still love this one.

My problem with Obama is when he's done with me I'll have nothing left but change.  Small change.

Capital gains will be take a major hit and upper incomes will take an even bigger hit.

Can we please have a flat tax?  How hard is that, people?

Phreddy - Make a list of all the 'bad things' BO has done. Please don't include 'not wearing a flag pin', 'patted his wife's butt', or 'he is the bastard spawn of satan'. Then do the same for JM. Be specific. I'll vote for the lesser if you will.

Although I like the flat tax idea, it has just as many possibilities for abuse as our current system.  The first thing that would happen is advocates for low income earners will bitch that these unfortunates shouldn't have to pay the same percentage of their income as the wealthy.  Congress will then begin to fuck with it until you have a convoluted, multi-tiered mess with special exemptions for this and that and favorite buddies.  The only outcome we can rely on is net higher taxes for middle income earners and fewer ways to maneuver.

I'm not so worried about the "bad things" he's done.  Fact is, I haven't heard that he's done anything.  I can only go on what he says he's going to do and those statements are a bit scary.

Well, no. A flat tax is a flat tax.  Full stop.

No fucking with it, no exceptions, no nothing.  A flat tax.

Or, do like most European countries... institute a VAT.  That way big consumers get big taxes and small consumers get far less.

Just make it fair to everyone.  No more exceptions, no deductions, no nothing.

Please?

Imagine the cost reductions in the bureaucracy alone... I venure to say that the IRS would shrink by 90%.

Why won't this work, you say?  Well, the damned tax lawyers would be out of business, that's why.  And politicians are about 70% lawyers.

As opposed to the McCain's party which has stood for Change the rules, steal from the poor, give it to the rich, change the norms of accountability, cakewalk through Iraq, Change, run the country into debt while subsidizing the rich friends of the GOP, Change the argument as you tell the people why it is good for them to pay more as you are giving special anti free-market protections to big pharmacueticals, Change the energy policy behind closed doors, while you give special subsidies and breaks to the companies that are taking advantage of distortions in the not so open and free markets.

I have no illusions as I believe that when it comes down to it, for all the perceived differences, in practice the Dems and the Reps are more similar and centrist then not.

But it is time for the Republicans to go and the Dems have finally fielded good candidates and have the current mandate for whatever small reforms they might manage. To elect The Reps will guarranty more of the horrendus status quo. more of the horrendus status quo. Which is becoming clearer and clearer the more McCain backtracks from his previous positions to ones so much like the Bush Administration and the standard GOP party line.
