It does seem nifty, but an open-source, weighted filter against Bayesian poisoning won't catch everything someone like that would write. I think it's meant mostly for spammers. Different boardware already comes with post/thread preview queues, and the possibility of stuff like Tachy and the Miserable User hack (both for vB). The member doesn't even know his or her posts aren't showing, or think the site is down/malfunctioning. Some refer to mods like this as a "stealth ban," because the [L]user doesn't know others can't see his posts and eventually slithers off because he's getting no reaction.

p -

I think you are taking this a bit too seriously.  Personally, I  am taking that link/idea with a very large grain of salt (and a giggle).

Still, the idea of it is funny.  Considering everyone has a generally different opinion of funny/intelligent vs. stupid (especially on the internet) I can't see how that could work effectively anyhow.

We can all dream though.

Ha! a stupidity filter for VB! Oh that's beautiful! It would recursively delete itself and everything else causing the end of the world!

I was actually thinking of making a "High Street Killfile Browser" modeled after the old "Horse-Free" browser I did for Cruel.com a few years ago.  But I would think there is already a killfile option for this board that just hasn't been implemented yet.

Nah, not that seriously. I figure the knowledge that hacks already exist for that sort of thing will suit whoever needs them, not necessarily HS.

Some would argue that social networking sites do that admirably, just as they're designed.

Or some boardware that comes with an "Ignore" option for specific users or entire groups. I'm still not sure why we keep having new threads to discuss a decrepit boogeyman who's not even around. It's like he's scarred you all for life and you keep worrying that he's every n00b shadow in the corner.

He's here. Four years of playing Torture Tommy™ is enough to traumatize anyone. Ask the Guantánamo 'combantants'.  Horseonovich/Montecore SOUGHT the abuse, played to it, sucked the oxygen out of the site and at times, paralyzed it.

He enjoys this, and looks on it as a character strength. Need I say no one else does? For many, just the sight of his usernames was and is nauseating.

Tom is skating on real thin ice now. If I were him - listen up, Tom - I'd ignore the old usernames, log in under something new and innocuous, then keep a low profile.

This isn't cruel.com anymore. The minute he starts drawing attention to himself again, he's gone for good.

"N00b shadow?"  Now, where have I heard that term before?  Eh, Pale?  Or, should I say, CleaningLady?

I think what he means is "Welcome to High-Street Montehorse".

It's good to see you surface from drudgespace.   You're going to be wearing that horse blanket for a long time, and I take some measure of pleasure in the fact that I was instrumental in that.

Hi Monte!

I can appreciate that, more than you may yet know. Online "personalities" (studying, not inhabiting them) are something of a sideline for me. People always complain how little gets communicated by text, in a forum, email, or IM. It's amazing that literature has lasted so few millennia. Individuals like that thrive on the discomfort of others, but are usually too weak to move on to other pastures. If they're truly around for years, then they're running on the fumes of fear and reputation alone. Sort of a scarecrow, alone in the field, to jangle at the noobs.

Not unless you've been huffing Pine-sol. I'm too arrogant to pretend to be anyone other than myself, and insufficiently ball-less to keep tormenting a single community once I've been shown the door. I don't need sock puppets and I can usually take hints (what I do with them is another matter). But if you transfer me to another owner in violation of the adoption contract, I'll eat your slippers.

You're right, sorry. My head's spinning in too many different directions. That was pALEPHx and I fixed it. This place will get most of my focus and attention next week
