He'll never be the President of the USA.  He will turn into a being of pure light and float off into the next dimension.

Our Fuehrer is just as uninvolved as he was during the Katrina disaster.  I’m convinced he’s a sociopath who is incapable of feeling for other people; the thing that amazes me is that he never learned to fake it.

He's obviously never needed to. What does that say about us?

Just to repeat my post to our politics list at work:

Let's take the most cynical slant on this and assume that this has no altruistic value and is just a ploy to get people to like him.

Goddamn that's refreshing!

McCain Prays; Obama Grabs a Shovel!

Politician - One who is willing to do anything, as long as it is pointless, expensive and well publicised.

I think for Obama, grabbing a shovel is a natural instinct.

In fact, I think he's been shoveling it for quite some time now, actually.

Yes, exactly! The job of President is going to be shoveling the mountains of shit the Bush administration has generated.

I have nothing but respect for someone who knows that the appropriate reaction to a disaster is to pick up a shovel and start digging.

Oh come on Sofie.  You can't really be that naive.  Pols fly in all the time for photo ops, roll up their sleaves, run off a few minutes of B roll do an interview and they're out of there.  Note that neither Obama's shirt nor his brand new boots are soiled.  When a real natural disaster occurs, I want the president in his office at his desk directing traffic, not out grabbing photo ops.  In many ways this video epitomizes Obama's campaign.  Lots of feel good shit and no real substance.

My point exactly.  Obama's a photo queen.   He's just really good at it.  Like Ed Rendell of PA, he knows when to be at the right place with the right implement in his hand.

Yes, Sophie, I appreciate his example, and I'm sure to many it's a great inspiration, but let's be real here - he did it for the photo op, not because he's really in there slugging away with the boys in the trenches.

I know that, but it beats the hell out of, "I'll pray for you."

I may be mistaken, but I believe he was having tea with a queen.

Once again, Phred, you're just wrong.  It is not the same bullshit.

Of course you're correct.  I should have said, "Different bullshit, same show."

McCain was going to go, had a press briefing to say he was but then changed his mind.  Then he drafted and introduced a Senate bill to help out, but voted against it in the end.  Only after Bush mentioned that we should pray for the flooded houses and the lobbyists approved the idea did McCain set his course of action; of course he never got around to actually praying.

From this point forward, I assume everything they do and say is calculated for effect.  Which after all does not make them completely different from most people.  My question is, does Cindy do pony rides with John?  Assuming that question is entirely unfair, then just let me ask you this.  Would you be willing to have the election be decided by a bout of Ultimate Surrender between Cindy and Michelle?

And since when is the President personally responsible for running around and taking care of local issues? Every kitten stuck in a tree becomes a big federal program spending 70% of it's budget on hiring more managers and tracking how much it pays it's self. When did congress become an arm of the Salvation Army and the Red Cross?
