The Los Angeles Police Department says one of its officers was shot and wounded by Long Beach police.
LAPD Officer Sam Park says the officer was shot early Wednesday in Long Beach. The wounded officer's name has not been released.
The Long Beach Police Department says the 26-year-old man was shot at 12:30 a.m. after officers responded to a call of a man walking down the street with a firearm.
The Long Beach department says the wounded officer is in stable condition and that it plans to release more information soon.
That, by the way, is the entire "article." Also, the last time I checked it was still legal to openly carry a gun in public, so long as you weren't waving it around and threatening people with it.

Not in the LBC you don't, unless you want to get shot by the cops.

Then you need to check again, JLP. The only state that allows open carry on your person is Arizona.
California has a Rural Open Carry law which probably doesn't apply in Long Beach or L.A. and if it did it would mean open carry in a vehicle only.

Dont'cha get out of the Republic much, Scotty? My state also allows open carry, not just AZ.
See here for clarification: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_carry

Lech, might want to reread what I wrote and the laws on the OpenCarry.org map in all those "open carry" states.
The original article stated that a call was put in to law enforcement because someone was walking down the street with a visible firearm. I pointed out that openly carrying on one's person is illegal in every state except for Arizona.
Many states allow open carry of a firearm in vehicles but the only place you can exit a vehicle with a holster in plain view is Arizona.

Yeah, I ended up at opencarry.org sometime after posting this and didn't give enough of a damn to come back and correct my post.

I need to get a GA firearm license just to prove you wrong.
EDIT: Yeah I should have smooshed this into the previous post. Fuck you all. More beers.

JLP, I am from GA. I had a carry permit in GA. You cannot carry a firearm in plain view strapped to your belt in GA. You may carry a firearm in your car without a permit as long as you keep it in plain sight or in the glovebox.
Jesus people, I am one of the few conservatives on this board. Do you really think I don't know my way around fucking gun laws?

The code seems to think that you can, but only on your way to/from work, unless I'm completely misreading it, which is entirely possible.

That portion of the GAC refers to private investigators who are more than likely deputized upon seeking their business licenses and therefore become law enforcement officers to some degree.
Average Joe gun owner cannot carry an open pistol Old West style in any state except for AZ.

Check your facts, pricklypus. Although controversial, people can & do open carry in my state. I don't need to however, even though I own the most badass Mexican quick-release holster you've ever seen. That will be my visible sidearm in the post-apocalypse.
The definition is not confined to vehicles.
OpenCarry.org wrote:
Fully preempted open carry permitted on foot and in vehicles without a license; localities fully preempted.
Fully preempted means state law supercedes municipal codes. If you're gonna talk shit, at least pack some corn in there for nutritional value.

Your knowledge of gun laws is worthless come midnight in the LBC, they don't do diddly for your new sucking chest wound (helpfully administered by your gracious city servants). Yeah you can sue later but is it really worth 2 weeks in intensive care, permanent incontinence and the loss of a lung?
Having a gun fetish has nothing to do with being a Conservative, having a gun fetish just means you're wierd and slightly alarming.

That just sank in--if I saw anybody walking calmly down the street with a gun in their hand, I would still be thinking "oh, fuck, we've got a problem here." I would argue that walking around with it in your hand in public is threatening. If I was talking to somebody with a holstered gun, I would feel acutely aware that I was being made to feel intimidated. You add a whiff of the stinkeye into that mix, and you've got combustion.

It's called brandishing when it's in your hand, whether it's your rifle or your gun (Full Metal Jacket). And that is illegal, especially in your car.
