Men still have only themselves to blame.

Technically, men can only blame themselves for bad genes, which is something a bit beyond asking "What's your sign, baby?"

I've been paying a lot of attention to the "immunohisto complex" shit over the years. It fascinates me that women can, in another documented study, choose t-shirts worn by men with complimentary or otherwise advantageous immune responses. This all reduces to the olfactory sense. So much, apparently, occurs beyond our common range of perception, I marvel at how the choosers...women...can select the appropriately immunoefficient mate while drunk off their own asses.

In hetero relations, this is for procreation, but I think the same olfactory sense exists for gay men. It's not merely who's attractive, but who has a "certain something" we can't quantify. In either orientation, this is evidenced by being drawn to certain people, beyond intellectual reason. I won't leave it to something that is purely about genetic immunity, but we should all probably give a lot more credit to supposed unknowns.

It seems I was reading something (on High Street, perhaps?) about the power of pheromones and the writer mentioned in addition to the fact that women were attracted to men's pheromones for a variety of reasons more or less like those mentioned in the Pill article, gay men were attracted by the pheromones (or something to that effect) of other gay men. Not to all men, but to other gay men.

I've long been fascinated by this "invisible" factor in human interaction that most people aren't aware of...The closer a woman is to ovulating, the more provocatively she will choose to dress--showing more and more skin.  The fact that women are at their horniest around ovulation isn't really such a surprise to learn; but the idea that hormones affect what you choose to wear on a given day was a bit startling.

Also, as you probably already know, when a pair or a group of women spend a lot of time together (particularly if they live in the same house) their menstrual cycles will shift until they are all in sync.  This is probably to reduce friction in the competition for mates.

I've been in several scenarios in my life where one woman in a group became pregnant, and others in the group got pregnant very soon after--like dominoes falling.  I worked at one office with five simultaneously pregnant women out of seven total.  (I was one nervous single gal, lemme tell you.  I was wearing amulets and tossing salt left and right.)

I don't know that the differences between the gheys and the straigts are as global as those between men and women, at least not to the point that gay men have inherently different smells than straight men. My sense of it was more like the difference between right- and left-handed men. You all understandably have to advertise--to various degrees of subtlety--as a practical matter, but do you really think gay men can kick a different smell? Is it possible that those subtle gaydar signals get ascribed to smell, which is the most subjective, undefinable sense? I don't know. I like vaginae.

Speaking of which, a couple of weeks ago I asked die GF what first attracted her to me. Without hesitation, she said my smell. I was really the last thing I would have guessed. Thank christ she didn't ask me what I noticed about her first.

Oh, I absolutely think it's possible, though I don't know for a fact.  I was thinking that scent might go a long way towards explaining "gaydar" and might also explain why so many women are attracted to men who, uh, wind up disappointing them.

I got a lot of positive impressions of my guy before I ever got close enough to smell him; but his scent sure helped seal the deal.  It kicked the sexual attraction up to Eleven.  Husband™ smells like warm kitten fur.  He is the best-smelling man ever.  In fifteen years I have never--literally never--been even mildly attracted to another male IRL (pinups and porn images don't count).

Still, I'm sending you my sweaty tee shirt on the off chance.

If it's true that gay men have pheromones that are distinctly different from those of straight men this could be the basis for designing a functional electronic Gaydar device.

A variant of the Voigt-Kampff has been used to analyze advertising for years. Chuck in a plethysmograph, and you've got a fairly effective "fruit detector." The VK version was nothing more than an eyeball tracker. Interestingly, straight men check out other men's crotches just as they'd do in a locker room if they can get away with it. Such activity is no true indicator of orientation.

Yeah... how about the gay guys who always hit on straight guys?  Obviously his sniffer is tuned to aggravation, or just danger.

A lot of gay guys are turned on by straight dudes. I don't understand it myself because I like good sex, but according to several buddies of mine who get off on breeder boys, quite a few of you have willing, pliable butt holes that need to be used from time to time.

Or thirds, depending upon the occasion.
