Don't worry. I'm sure your buddies in the media will bury this quickly. They always do.

What do you mean? That's all we've heard about on the radio 17 channels of right-wing extremist claiming that Blago, Obama, Rez and Ayers have all been holding circle jerks while they discuss how much they can sell it for.
Lessee, the party that brought us the patriot act once again claims suppression of information - awesome pair-o-ducks.

Two things:
One, Blagojogcoisdcch said "all they're offering is appreciation." So, they weren't going to deal.
Two, Obama gets absolutely nothing out of this. The seat was going to go to a Democrat anyway, and wouldn't have changed the balance in the senate at all.
They keep putting Obama in this trap, where they say "I'd like to know more about..." If there is no more to know, there's no way he can respond to that question that would satisfy his detractors.

Uh, there's an ongoing federal investigation. Of course his aides aren't talking. I'm sure they've all been instructed to keep silent, BY THE US ATTORNEYS OFFICE, so they don't taint the investigation. Talking would be the worst thing that could happen because it would significantly weaken any case that the government has as people start to cover their tracks and try to destroy evidence.
Of course, if the aides were talking, the right would just claim that they were lying.

Seeing as all of this hate and discontent is happening in your neighborhood, what are the feelings of the populace there in relation to it's elected officials? I have to assume that it's the talk of the town because I haven't been able to turn on the telly for the last few days without being able to avoid it...

Oh I agree fully that Obama has done nothing at all illegal here.
All I'm saying is that (and I think it's silly), for some reason, Obama's folk feel the need to "go that extra mile" in distancing themselves from the "Chicago Machine". I really believe that Obama has nothing to do with Blago or Daley's folk or any of the other crooks. I simply feel he's made a mistake of being overly-cautious in this whole thing. Two news organizations, on the day after Obama was elected, reported that he was meeting with Blago to discuss the replacement. Obama claims he never met with the guy, which is probably true. I'm sure one of Obama's people met with him and told the guy "fuck off" when he tried to extort a prime job for the seat. The fuck-up on Obama's part is trying to say, "we um, I never had any contact with the guy about the seat" instead of telling the truth and making it a non-issue.
All I was pointing out was, this is what Obama meant when he said, "we, umm, I mean 'I' never had any contact". Again, I fully believe his statement is truthful, it's just funny how he corrected himself TO MAKE SURE it was truthful.
I don't see what harm, to the federal investigation (after reading the very hot HKG's reply), would be done by simply saying, "we met with the guy after the election, although I can't discuss it further due to the ongoing federal investigation". It was obviously no secret, the day after the election, when Obama's handlers included the meeting when reporting to the news folk at the morning-after press conferenc.

Before it broke Blago's approval rating was already at 13%. It has since decreased to 7%. Here, as I've said before, there's really no difference between Republicans and Democrats. Illinois is full of moderate Republicans and conservative Democrats, so we tend to go back and forth with our governors. People want him to step down, not really because of the corruption...that's kind of a foregone conclusion, but because he's kept a lot of shit going as governor. He doesn't get along with mayor Daily; he doesn't get along with the speaker of the house, Mike Madigan, he doesn't get along with Lisa Madigan, Mike's daughter and the attorney general, and he doesn't get along with Pat Quinn, the lieutenant govenor who led the charge to recall him several years ago (apparently they have not spoken in over a year). He disagrees with everyone on the state budget, he makes unilateral decisions, and all-in-all he's an arrogant prick. BUT, he got elected because he ran against Judy Barr Topinka who had ties to incarcerated governor Ryan.
So of course people here want him to step down, but no one sees if happening without a fight.

1. The feds have not announced that the investigation is ongoing, now have they.
2. I'm sure he also has to do his own internal investigation to see if anyone in his own camp was promised anything in exchange for helping Blago. Again, saying anything at this point would tip people off who may believe that they are secure.
You underestimate the arrogance of these politicians and the people who surround them. There's no reason for Blago to be involved in anything considering he watched Rezco go down. The fact that he didn't cease his activities when that happened tells you that these people think they are invincible and above the law.

My point was, it was already reported that one of Obamas people met with Blago the day after the election, regarding the replacement. The actual two different news sources said that OBAMA was to meet with Blago, which I'm betting mean't "one of our people" at the time it was said. I'm just wondering why they'd try to claim that didn't happen now, especially when the feds are saying they got Blago on tape saying Obama wouldn't give him anything. If anything, it makes Obama seem honest.

It's been released. It was Rahm Emmanuel. He was on some of the taped conversations, just as I expected, so I'm sure Obama had to get clearance to release the information.

In Illinois it is business as usual, Dirckman. Ole Rod is merely the fourth governor since 1961 to screw the pooch. Prior was Otto Kerner, Jr., Daniel Walker, and George H. Ryan [still incarcerated]. It is just not that big a deal.
