Where are the forfeiture proceedings, which at the federal level are seperates from a criminal case and do not require a conviction, that seize every home and asset? It is common in federal drug cases to have a civil forfeiture case at the same time as an indictment. Which seeks every asset, legal or illbegotten, on the assumption it was all obtained with some proceeds of a felony.

Last night a judge allowed him another 24 hours to come up with two more people  prepared to guarantee his $10million bail.

His release after being arrested last Thursday was granted until yesterday on the basis four people would stand bail, but so far only his wife Ruth and brother Peter have signed the bond that makes them liable if he were to flee.

I have never heard of a pot grower ever being granted release from federal arrest and custody until his bail is secured in full.

Makes one all but yearn for a time not long since gone when modern day conservatives were not so stale and self righteous in their profligate ways and could engage in brillant, erudite repartee in their mansions oo the hill.

Bringing to market the last redoubt of Republican joie de vivre. Yours for a mere $24.5 million.

Where Bushes and Reagans, Kissingers and Thatchers once held forth on politics and the miseries of the left, one can hear a lonesome dehumidifier churning in the air....

The board is — how exactly does one put this? — looking for a tenant with resources, but perhaps without his lust for life.

“TV cameras, Secret Service, hoopla — they don’t want all that,” ...

Really. What do they want, one wonders.

“Quiet money,” he said.

I forsee the coming spring's fashion. Quiet Money is the new black.

I'll ask you the same question Dusty, since it turns out Madoff is a Democrat.  His favorite politician?  Chuck Schumer, who sits on the Senate Finance and Banking Committees.

I could care less what party he is, usually I bait these things with the proper bait, and you bite.  You did.  I win.  Again.

Madoff has no loyalty to anything or anyone except his bank account.  He may vote one particular way, but it's not out of any sense of principles except insofar as he believes it will assist his bottom line.

The same holds true for their party affiliations.

No, I just got up, and I am not even caffienated.  The rich are the rich.  Those with the privi's are from both parties.   They have their own little club, that you will never be a member of, no matter how many times you sit and watch "Homes of the Rich and Famous" and you wank away.

They are different than you, me, and nearly everyone else in that they get a ticket to do what ever they like with very little consequence.

This I agree with.  During the 80's I founded a business that grew quite large.  My financial partner was a billionaire from Silicon Valley.  I learned a good deal about quid pro quo with politicians, law enforcement, and even government employees by watching him throw his financial weight around.  Eventually, I was doing the 1000 lb gorilla dance with him.  It didn't end well.  I learned a few things through that adventure.
