I never had time nor inclination to to fit into that mess.  I do, however, have kin and an old friend who have traveled later Deadhead paths.

It appears to me as very boring.

Sarge may not be getting excited, but Ann Coulter probably is.  She was a major Deadhead back when Jerry was alive.

Interesting.  For some reason, I suspected as much.  She's downright funny on the subject.  She is right that they were truly apolitical.  They were fairly scrupulous (a word that seems improbable when discussing the Grateful Dead) about avoiding politics.

The current Dead, Ratdog, Phil Lesh and Friends, and Mickey Hart's group (whose name eludes me now) have gone the other way.  I don't follow any of them closely, though Phil Lesh's band still kicks ass.

Hell, I even quite following the Grateful Dead after that piece of shit "Shakedown Street."  What an unintentionally depressing album that was.

I suspected that Shakedown Street was a result of a series of cocaine decisions.      "Depressing" is putting it mildly.  I lost all interest about the same time.

I'm so there, at least at 2 of the shows...

Having Warren on guitar is as close to read Dead as you can get.

Shakedown street = Disco Dead.... 'nuff said.

The last album of the Dead I ever, ever listened too was "American Beauty", I mean what is the point?

Listening to Dick's Picks or getting a show off of the Internet Archive is always a pleasure since what made the Dead great was their live shows - not their studio albums. During their resurgence in the mid 80's I got into them, but was repulsed in the early 90's when the Sorority Boys and Fraternity Girls started showing up at shows.  Surprisingly, it was the Greatful Dead's jams that turned me to jazz at the same time.

I am, however, partial to Blues for Allah or Mars Hotel.

They were a great live band if your personal chemistry was properly balanced.  I can't remember how many times I saw them in the Bay Area back in the mid to late 60's.  If you can remember how many times you saw them, you weren't getting in to the spirit of a Dead concert.

Goddammit Phwed, quit making me agree with you.

Hell Dusty, if you would just develop a mature view of politics, we would agree on damn near everything.

If you developed a sense of self control and compassion we'd see eye to eye.  Heh.

Hey, I have compassion.  Given the chance, I wouldn't kill ALL the liberals.  In fact, I would use some self control.
