When the homeschooled finally find themselves out in the world--free for the first time in their lives--it is nearly always spectacular.  Especially the ones who aren't socialized.

They're under the misconception that they lost the election because they weren't "conservative" enough, so they've had no choice but to go as far off into Nutsville as they can to find their champions.

OK, who's ready for "Someone please beat this kid up: Round 2"?

Apparently children who act like experts is a new "thing."  I've heard of a just-pubescent restaurant reviewer, now GQ brings us The Littlest Fashion Fag!

This is my favorite outfit. The tie is a regular tie, but I tied it like that because I’ve seen it done that way in old English movies. Even though the tie and the jacket are different colors, they’re both striped, so I thought they looked right together. And I wore the vest and pants together because they’re both shades of red.

Why are these kids being listened to by anyone?  I thought it was common knowledge that kids this age don't know shit about shit?

Whatever happened to "children should be seen and not heard"?

I have a friend who has an adorable 5-y-o that talks constantly. My friend and his wife expect everyone around to stop everything while the boy talks, which he does non-stop. He can be in another room talking up some other adults and you and someone are having a conversation and are in mid-sentence and the boy comes in to tell you about his favorite thing of the day, and my friend or his wife will get PISSED at you if you don't stop what you are saying and allow the boy to manipulate all conversation from that point forward.

Needless to say, my friend and his wife (and their now 2 children) spend most of their time together, as a family, and company doesn't come round anymore....

The sad thing is, I've seen this sort of thing in several "only child" families going back to the 90's.

Back in my grandmothers day, all the kids quit talking the moment their dad walked through the door and didn't say another word until he left for work the next morning. Funny thing is, they all turned out great, had great families and seemed happy as hell, even though if they stepped out of line, when they were kids, they had to go cut their own switch.....

Oh yeah, I forgot, kids and teens are so much more well behaved and well mannered now than they were before Dr Phil and Oprah....

As an only child, albeit the only child of a Southerner and a non-Southerner who liked Southern manners, I was encouraged to speak my mind but there was a limit to everything. I didn't talk back to adults, I didn't question what adults said in front of others, and I certainly never corrected an adult in front of others. The times I did I was told in no uncertain terms that I was out of line. Oh, and - of course - I "ma'amed" and "sirred" everyone who was an adult.

Oddly, I still expect that from kids but I'm usually disappointed.

Here's a piece about the whole child-foodie thing.

If all this kinder-worship was intended to get children more interested in restaurants and cooking, it would have McDonald's CEO quaking. But it appears these features are meant to appeal to adults, since not many little kids peruse the Sunday magazine for recipes or control the remote. And that is absurd: Children are typically not equipped to deal with the real dangers that exist in the kitchen, their palates are undeveloped, and their ability to communicate nuanced ideas is limited. The chance that a child is going to come up with food to rival Cook's Illustrated or Ina Garten is about as likely as a 17-year-old perfecting the next great malbec-syrah blend.

Little prick. Fortunately, most irritating child "savants" hit a wall and crash and burn when they get to college and find that suddenly they're no more clever or celebrated than the other kids...although this kid is more of an IDIOT savant. Or just an idiot. Wedgie target for sure. Where's a bully when you need one?

Careful what you wish for, ptah.  The new administration could always decide to start doing serious investigating of the last administration, and their scandals were bigger.  I'm sure there's a great big file of contingency dirt sitting in Obama's desk just waiting to be used.

Or, another example

...And many children who watch it take it to heart: riding in the car one day with his parents in Tacoma, Wash., Rafael de la Torre Batker, 9, was worried about whether it would be bad for the planet if he got a new set of Legos.

[...]

Sometimes teachers observe the opposite: children who become environmental advocates at home after seeing the video. After Jasmine Madavi, 18, saw it last year in Mr. Lukach’s class at Woodside Priory, she began nagging her parents to stop buying bottled water. Her mother resisted, saying that filtered tap water, Jasmine’s suggested alternative, would not taste as good. But Jasmine bought the filter on her own, and the household is now converted.
