It's very important that our hired killers have no access to alcohol, porn, or tobacco.  That way they have absolutely no down time so they never lose that psychotic edge.

In all seriousness, though, I think this is what comes of allowing the military to become so filled with evangelical Christian nutters.  (Don't ask me how this state of affairs could have been avoided, because I don't have an answer.)

There's more than one group of nutters going into the service.  No doubt about that.  I think you'll probably find a respectable overlap between the two groups in question.

One possible line of reasoning: aborting babies of Muslim parents would prevent said babies from going to hell, since they'd never have the chance to follow the Devil's false religion.

An advantage to agnosticism is that when stuck in a foxhole you can pray to any god you can imagine and recant without consequence.   We agnostics are basically just gutless atheists.

The fundy church I grew up in teaches that if the PARENTS aren't SAVED Christians, then the baby goes to hell. period.

Sorry, but according to the nutjob fundy church (with about 3500 in attendance every week, and a K-12 school) I went to says if your parents aren't saved Christians, and you are too young to be saved yourself, and you die, you burn in hell for all eternity.

They did a whole entire play about it. Here is a link to the story on the play:

Even granting that there is a denomination that believes that, it's probably not because the babies weren't baptized, and even if that is also true, that just means that there is a denomination out there that believes that, not that this is a property of being a fundamentalist Christian.

Seriously, my good man, do a google search on the play I mentioned. I really think your idea of "fundy Christian" is somehow a "rose-colored glasses" thing.

The play specifically addresses this issue. Parents are looking at their baby, and they are talking about how they "consider themselves 'Christians'" (but don't go to church) and then the baby dies and Satan shows up and has demons cart the baby off to hell.

This is a play is a-typical Evangelicalism, at it's core root.

Yeah, if you go to a "mainstream" Christian church, you don't have these crazy views forced on you but I've been to several "charismatic" Christian churches (and Baptist ones, as well) who all would agree that if the parents aren't saved Christians and the baby dies, the baby is held accountable and goes to Hell. They taught the same thing at the two "Bible camps" I went to, growing up, and at any number of "revivals" I've been to.

If you think this is just a few wack-o's going to some "Church" service held in a barn, you're sorely mistaken.

It is funny how mainstream Christians have no clue how many fundie-wack-jobs there are, and how many Churches preach these fundy beliefs.

I might note, the Church I went to, again, had seating for almost 4k, not counting the 8 Bible study halls, the dining hall, kitchen and Church offices. I know that isn't a "mega-church" but when you consider, in the 3 miles it is from my house, I pass 3-4 other equally-sized or larger Churches that, I know for a fact, all preach the same ideas.

Evangicals and Pentecostals (those who believe this kind of nonsense) claim worldwide numbers of over 400 million +. So to say this is a "fringe" group is naive.

Good point.  They should give our troops Dexedrine inhalers or Stim Packs so they can power up without a decrease in combat effectiveness.

No, I've just apparently not been clear enough.  My pet is a cat.  My pet has gray fur.  However, having gray fur is not a property of being a cat.  It just means that there is a subclass of cats that have gray fur.  Similarly, believing that babies go to hell is not a property of being a fundamentalist Christian, unless you're using some non-standard definition of fundamentalist.  That's why I referred to my comment as pedantry, and that's why both of you guys can lick my sweaty, parmesan-smelling nutsack.

Majority has nothing to do with it.  I conceded that I could be wrong about the relative prevalence of burning babies (hmm, there's the start of a band name) a long time ago.  I'm going to stop trying to explain now, I'm obviously not communicating clearly, and I don't actually care.  Mostly I wanted to tell you to lick my balls because I thought it was funny.
