Actually, she has a point of sorts.  Higher education in America (and England/Oz) is a complete scam, the least they can do for all that money is place the customer in a job.

Na, I'm sorry, but I'm real familiar with the tech job market. Even in this economic climate, if you're in the New York area, a new IT BS holder should be able to get a job. If not, the problem is you.

That's pretty obvious, if she's sueing the problem is definitely her.  However the "Academic" Industry needs to get unfucked - it's completely out of control.

Like how?

I'm not being a smartass, I'm wondering how it's fucked.

And as for the story, if a person with an IT degree can't find a position in a major metropolitan area, they're probably a social retard.

The cost of the education has far outrun the value of it at this point meanwhile the business world has posted a premium on it as the high school diploma as a measuring stick has become worthless.

By way of example, every single one of our secretaries has at least a bachelor's degree - and they wouldn't have gotten that job without one.  But all they do is answer phones, file, etc.

What's fucked about is that 90% of them had to pay for that BS degree and started their career with a pretty sizeable debt load.  What did that $20k~$40k get them - about $5k worth of education and $15k worth of fancy dorms and overpriced books.  And I'm not talking about Harvard here, I'm talking about 2-bit Cal State Long Beach or Chadron State.

You know, I get what O+ is saying and that's true for IT..but in the liberal arts, it's so true. I amortized, for fun, what my hairdresser friend made dropping out of high school going to fucking beauty school at 16 and comparing it to me and my friends who've gone to grad school in liberal arts crap, and it's sad. I should have cut hair.
I do think the value, beyond income, of going to Harvard or Yale or a place like it, is still worth it. But you have to really wonder about the rest, in terms of value for what's invested.

I got an Ashkenazi attorny* my-self in hopes of making some easy money; But, the mother-fucker has some kid of "morals" or some such shit.  What's that all about?

I'm just assuming that she has an Ashkenazim attorney.  As we all know too-well, some "stereo-types" do exist for a reason,

Sofie and Orange are right, she is the problem and when you listen to her it's obvious why she hasn't found a job.

...an dey di'int.

Seriously, even if you just know your shit, and don't quite have the degree you can get hired in IT. If she can't convey her skills in standard English, then I guess she's just fucking herself.

I mean, I communicate in a colorful fashion (translation: I curse like a sailor). However, I don't use expletives when I am trying to impress a potential employer.

Hell, I don't have any part of a degree and here I sit as an executive at a prominent financial institution.  I started out printing and delivering reports, worked my way onto the help desk, into server admin and then managment.

Of course I actually busted my ass to get the jobs and earn the promotions . . .

Going out on a limb a bit here:  "Whitey 'keeping her down?"

Am I right?  What did I win?  It better not be an-other fucking "Snuggie!"

Of course Whitey is keeping her down.  A White woman would be expected to be presentable, speak Standard English in a way that conveys that she knows her stuff, and make an effort on her own to find potential employment.

Ms. Thompson is owed reparations; therefore a selection of potential jobs for her consideration should be presented to her on a silver platter by the school.  Expecting her to speak Standard English is a racist oppression against her heritage.

I hate to sound too much like Fnord here, but I KNEW she had to be black.

Big surprise.

Btw, I have a degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in OIL painting.  And I have never had a problem finding a job that pays 60K and up.  Now, I'm not rich, but even when contracts end and I get laid off, I find work fairly easy.  I've already had a bunch of interviews and expect I'll have something before the end of next month to tide me over until I move.

Probably because I'm not an idiot.

And for what reason might that stereotype exist? (btw, 'stereotype' is a single word...don't you have a spellcheck?) The stupid bitch has no right to sue. She attended the college of her choice and obtained the education she expected. Simply because she could not instantly profit from it has nothing to do with the university. It is never incumbent upon them to find career opportunities, though many offer placement services and other avenues of post-grad employment free of charge, right on campus.

She is a big pile of FAIL. Either she didn't amount enough relevant experience, or she didn't figure out how to represent it on her resumé. It's never going to be the college's fault. Like people trying to sue a McDonald's for getting fat. The incumbency is theirs, legally. A university exists to provide learning opportunities. The career relations department is often shoved up into a dark corner of the campus center. If she didn't avail herself of their services, or did and failed, then it's the damn job market, not the college. I've already been through this, relatively recently, and it never occurred to me to blame the school.
