For ten years, the only reason I bought a newspaper was Calvin & Hobbes. Here it is, beginning to end: Nov 18th, 1985 to Dec 31st, 1995.

Well, it's not something I'd post on Cruel.   I stumbled over it a couple months ago (probably from MeFi). I sat down with a large amount of intoxicants and comestibles and read it through complete.

I have all the books from like 12 years ago. When I found out we were having a boy, Mr. Sofie went and got me them.

And they have been invaluable in helping me to be a good parent to a boy. My biggest "Calvin and Hobbes" moment to date was when my boy was 6 years old and filled his wagon with water, and asked me to contribute a few quarters. He threw them into the wagon, and dragged it around the neighborhood as a portable wishing well.

Whe he got back (with much more money than I had expected), I told him what happens with the money fished out of wishing wells. He donated the money, but not after a lively debate.

And I bookmarked that gift of yours, and spent several days savoring the strips from beginning to end.

Hah!  That story almost makes me wish I'd had a kid.

This may be atypical coming from a Goat Boy (thanks Choad), but I'll take a tiger over a kid any day.
