Former Luzerne County Judge Mark Ciavarella Jr. was sentenced Thursday to 28 years in federal prison for taking $1 million in bribes from the builder of a pair of juvenile detention centers in a case that became known as "kids for cash."

It's the biggest fucking national disgrace ever. Now, prison industry groups lobby state governments (mostly successfully, no candidate wants to be 'soft' on crime) for ever harsher sentences and now can put prisoners to work in factories for pennies an hour in order to pay for the food they eat. The South has finally brought back slavery, hooray! Watch out for the prison/industrial complex.

Especially when you consider that in some states over 70% of inmates are in due to petty drug convictions and things like gambling and prostitution.
But I still think that if you are in prison, you should be responsible for earning anything beyond 3 hots and cot. You want AC, cable TV or a new basketball, you should get your family to send you some money or get busy making license plates.

Some of us don't think pot smokers, gamblers, or whores and the men who fuck them should be in prison.
