I leant out my hardback copy of E.B. Sledge's "With the old Breed", it never returned and I can no longer sleep at night.  It was an original print.

They go for $500 on Amazon now, should any of you soulless bastards come across it in a used bookstore or swap-meet, I would happily fork over half of that for a quality copy.

Have you tried abebooks or alibris?  They're usually cheaper than amazon for used books.  Most used bookstores know about the internet and what their stuff is worth these days, but I'll keep an eye out.

Sucks to lose a 1st edition. I have a few holes in my heart where books used to be as well. In my experience, your search for perfection might be a long one - you wouldn't settle for a "like new" or "very good" of lesser pedigree?

I lost my original copy of "Steal This Book".

Yes, ironically it was stolen.

I still have mine, albeit in less than mint condition. And yes - I stole it.

I feel your pain. I'm still searching for my copy of The Tao of Pooh that got sent to the Goodwill by accident and was never seen again.

Yes, and I'd like it back, please.
