I despise the majority of the human species, and don't get too freaked out when they're blown to bits for religious reasons, have their hands chopped off while being raped and infected with AIDS, reduced to eating the flies that land on their faces, or die from waterborne diseases because they shit in or near drinking water sources. However, deliberate cruelty to animals wild or domestic pisses me off!

Me too. And she's probably a cunt, but she's correct in her evaluation of the moral high-ground: outside of a few vegans and Jains (and even then hypocrisy is unavoidable) there is none. She shames us through reflection but we're too stupid to recognize ourselves in the mirror; when we see that other monkey we howl with indignation and commence to fling our poo.
