Want to live in the vicinity of wind turbines? My own best hope is thorium. We live in a closed system. Not fixing the problem for everyone is not an option.

We have plenty out here, except we have the room for them.

Unfortunately, around here no amount of wind generators or solar panels will do the trick. Not enough room, wind or sun, and too many trees. It's the grid and overhead power lines. People demand buried lines, but that is completely impractical. So we deal with loss of power for a total of a week or so per year without power. If you are on your own well for water, sanitation gets to be a problem, and refrigeration is impossible unless its cold out, and then you have scavenging animals to deal with.
I've limped along for years relying on wood heat when power is out (not much help in warm weather), but finally succumbed and installed a generator, mainly to placate Insert Here. Piece- at any price, you know.
